Galaxy S9 specs leak ahead of rumored CES preview

Samsung may be planning to show off its upcoming Galaxy S9 flagship smartphones at CES 2018, according to a new report, though the extent of the unveiling is anyone's guess. This reveal won't replace the expected March launch event, per the tipped details, so it is possible we won't see much at the show in January.

Galaxy S9 could look like this

The year is almost over. Many might already be in the decision-making stage for which premium smartphone to buy this coming shopping spree season. Those who have already made their choice months ago will now have to look towards the future instead. They don’t need to look far and hard, though, because if these latest leaks are to be believed, the Galaxy S9 is just two months away and may not exactly be the revolutionary the Galaxy S8 was.

Love Bixby or hate it, the Galaxy S9 will make AI inescapable

Samsung has just teased the existence of an AI-centric software for its flagship smartphones called the Samsung Galaxy AI UX. This may be a rebranding of the company's UI, and it is expected to be introduced with the upcoming Galaxy S9 smartphone. This underscores the company's strong focus on Bixby and the overall vision it has for the use of its AI in a full ecosystem of products.

Galaxy S9 may equip iPhone X innards

Galaxy S9 may equip iPhone X innards

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 both have facial recognition abilities, but not to the degree the Galaxy S9 might. A new report suggests that Samsung is currently in the process of sourcing their own 3D-sensor, not entirely unlike what Apple has in the iPhone X. But what would Samsung do to differentiate themselves further from their competitors - surely not continue to rely on curved edge displays alone?

Galaxy S9 announcement to happen early, face recognition tipped

Galaxy S9 announcement to happen early, face recognition tipped

Samsung has so far pushed its product announcements and launches earlier and earlier after the strategy seemed to work wonders for the Galaxy S7. But when is early really too early? When it happens near the start of the year, perhaps. That seems to be the growing expectation of a Galaxy S9 announcement taking place before MWC, perhaps even at CES. This, however, may backfire if the smartphone does include a feature found in the iPhone X, which just started shipping to buyers last week.

Galaxy S9 might finally fix Samsung’s biggest 2017 blunder

Galaxy S9 might finally fix Samsung’s biggest 2017 blunder

2017 has so far been great for Samsung. It's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 flagships are doing swell. Google has somewhat taken its place in having this year's most criticized smartphone. And Apple has helped make its case for $1,000 devices. But as great, or even just good, as the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 are, they both suffer from one annoying misfeature: the placement of the fingerprint sensor on the back. If this super early 3D schematics are to be believed, however, Samsung might have finally decided to fix it for next year's Galaxy S9.

Galaxy S9 in new tiny form tipped in China

Straight from Ice Universe comes a tip about the next big (small) Samsung Galaxy smartphone. This next Galaxy device is almost certainly not the devices we've already seen rumored, as this newest tip specifically calls out "full screen" and "less than 5 inches." Previous rumors for the Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018) suggest 5.5-inch and 5.7-inch "Infinity Display" panels, respectively.

There’s bad news about the Galaxy S9 display

As is usually the case, speculation about upcoming flagships begins well before that flagship is actually launched, and with the Galaxy S9, it seems we've been hearing rumors and speculation since the Galaxy S8 arrived on the scene. One topic that has seen a particularly high amount of back and forth is the Galaxy S9's fingerprint scanner. Plenty of rumors have claimed that Samsung has been looking into an in-display fingerprint reader, which would certainly be an interesting biometric addition to Samsung's phone.

Galaxy S9 software sent to Samsung phones in beta form

Samsung said today that their next big software beta release will be build on Android Oreo UI and UX and will be on their next flagship Galaxy device. Barring some major upset in the schedule Samsung's stuck to over the past several years, the "Samsung Experience 9.0 beta" will quite likely be applied to the Samsung Galaxy S9 this upcoming spring. This update will be available starting on November 2nd - with some prerequisites.

Galaxy S9 won’t have screen fingerprint scanner, says confident leak

Galaxy S9 won’t have screen fingerprint scanner, says confident leak

It seems that makers of fingerprint sensors for smartphones might soon find themselves in a tough spot. Well-known leakster UniverseIce claims 100% certainty that the Galaxy S9 will not have an on-screen fingerprint scanner yet again. Given there are very little options around, that would mean that either Samsung keeps its oddly-placed rear fingerprint scanner or, at the risk of being called a copycat yet again, implement face recognition instead.

Galaxy S9 fingerprint sensor patent shows less awkward front placement

Galaxy S9 fingerprint sensor patent shows less awkward front placement

The Galaxy S8 has been criticized for its awkward fingerprint sensor placement, which is next to the camera on the back of the phone. This is a difficult place for someone to use it -- you can't easily find it without looking and your finger can't reach the sensor if you're holding the phone at its base. At best, you can manage to get an index finger over the sensor, but only at an angle.
