See SpaceX land a rocket at sea in 360-degree video

Back in early April, Elon Musk's SpaceX finally achieved its goal of landing its reusable Falcon 9 rocket on a drone ship at sea. Shortly after, the space agency shared some impressive photos of the landing, but now they've gone one step further and released an amazing 360-degree video of the event. The footage gives you a first-hand look at what it would be like to stand on the floating platform as the rocket touches down above you.

SpaceX successfully lands rocket on sea droneship for first time

SpaceX has made history, successfully landing one of its rockets on a droneship in the ocean. A video shows the rocket pulling off a perfect landing, gracefully sliding down out of the sky and onto the landing pad, no hiccups or issues to be seen. This marks a first for the company; President Obama chimed in to congratulate it, saying, "It’s because of innovators like you & NASA that America continues to lead in space exploration."

Blue Origin shares video of important third landing

Over the weekend, Blue Origin, the space agency backed by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, made yet another successful landing of the New Shepard rocket. In fact, this is the third time that very same rocket was launched and landed, first in November and then in January. The company has finally shared the edited video footage of that launch. And while the video seemed almost ordinary and normal, which is probably part of the message, it almost belies the significance of Blue Origin's achievement in the fields of space science and space travel.

Blue Origin reusable rocket completes third launch and landing

Jeff Bezos and his private spaceflight agency Blue Origin are now three-for-three in successfully launching and landing their reusable rocket into space. Their New Shepard rocket — the same one that was launched and landed in November and again in January — repeated the feat once again on Saturday morning, lifting off at 11:18 AM Eastern. Bezos tweeted updates as the event took place, noting that the landing was "perfect."

Blue Origin to launch its reusable rocket a third time

Blue Origin, the private space agency owned by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, has revealed that for a third time it will be launching its reusable rocket later today, followed of course by another successful landing attempt. "Working to fly again tomorrow. Same vehicle. Third time. #LaunchLandRepeat," Bezos tweeted on Friday, indicating that they will be using the same New Shepard rocket that has already been launched and made a soft landing on two separate occasions.

ExoMars 2016 is Go as rocket blasts off for Martian mission

The European Space Agency's mission to Mars has successfully begun, though it'll be seven months before the Proton rocket reaches the red planet. ExoMars 2016 aims to sift through the Martian atmosphere in search of methane and other trace gases which, the scientists suggest, might indicate that there are active biological or geological processes underway on the distant planet.

SpaceX rocket launches satellite, but misses landing yet again

Private space agency SpaceX was finally able to complete the latest launch of its Falcon 9 rocket on Friday afternoon, after more than a week of delays and difficulties. The Elon Musk-founded company had been commissioned by SES to send a communications satellite into orbit, a mission it was able to successfully complete. However, on SpaceX's longer term goal of landing re-usable rockets, this latest attempt was another bust.

Blue Origin shares rocket point of view from historic landing

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin has been busy setting records over the last few months when it comes to successfully landing re-usable rockets, only to launch and land them again. There's already been plenty of videos published of the private space agency's New Shepard rocket making its landings, but this week they shared one more, this time with a unique perspective: the landing shot from a camera on the rocket itself.

Relive history with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 landing montage

Relive history with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 landing montage

There is no way around it. SpaceX will be memorialized in spaceflight history as having made the first orbital rocket landing. More than just the feat itself, it will hopefully open the doors to reusable rockets in the future. That second part of SpaceX's equation still has to be delivered, as the historic Falcon 9 has yet to make its first flight after its momentous landing. In the meantime, however, Elon Musk's company will not waste any time or marketing resource to let the world know about its achievement, like through this almost four-minute compilation of the dramatic moments in SpaceX history.

SpaceX will attempt another sea landing this weekend

SpaceX will attempt another sea landing this weekend

If at first you don't succeed, maybe on the third try you will. That seemed to work for SpaceX when it successfully landed a Falcon 9 rocket last month but on solid ground. Now it will be tempting fate once more and will be daring to land another Falcon 9 rocket at sea using one of its drone platforms. Perhaps it feels that lady luck, not to mention science, will be on its side this time around. If successful, SpaceX would take yet another momentous step forward in making space exploration, and space travel, more economical and ultimately more affordable.

SpaceX’s historic Falcon 9 rocket ready to fire again

Elon Musk definitely knows how to end the year with anticipation for the next one. Right on New Year's Day, the illustrious CEO of SpaceX and Tesla posted on social media that the Falcon 9 rocket that made history by landing safe and sound on the ground after an orbital launch shows no sign of damage and is ready to fire again. That is, if it does fire again, since Musk also earlier hinted that the rocket might, instead, spend the remainder of its life in a museum.
