PlayStation is skipping E3 2020, throws subtle shade at the event

With the upcoming launch of the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, the console wars are back again in full swing. Depending on who you ask, one or the other is the console to beat this year. It is arguable, though, that Microsoft's gaming platform may be enjoying the lion's share of the media attention while Sony seems to be biding its time. That perception may have just been reinforced now that Sony has said, somewhat still unofficially, that it will be skipping the E3 show for the second time in a row.

PlayStation 5 logo unveiled at CES 2020, nothing more

While Sony does have a lot to say at CES 2020, it is almost comically mum about its upcoming console. It might be reserving its big splash for a more opportune, gaming-centric event but it doesn't seem to have figured out how to hype it over a prolonged period of time. It did have one thing to say about the PlayStation 5, though, and that pretty much boils down to its official logo. It's better than nothing but, all things considering, its silence might be a bit worrying.

PlayStation Controller patents are both innovative and ridiculous

PlayStation Controller patents are both innovative and ridiculous

The PlayStation 5 is coming really soon and yet there's still some uncertainty as to what it would look like. The "V" shaped console that was revealed in a patent and a subsequent photo may be interesting but there's also a slim chance that this PS5 was only meant to be seen and used by developers. It isn't just the console itself that is shrouded in mystery but the DUALSHOCK5 controllers as well. While rumors claim that the PS5 controller won't differ that much from its predecessor, at least two patents from Sony show how the company had ideas that could make the input device a lot more interesting.

PlayStation 5 dev kits are more interesting than the final design

PlayStation 5 dev kits are more interesting than the final design

Back in the early days of gaming consoles, each box, if you could really call them a box, exuded some personality with a unique and almost eccentric design. Perhaps due to the changing aesthetic tastes of the gaming market, that design trend stopped after the first Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Leaked patents almost suggested that the PlayStation 5 could once again sport a rather unorthodox form, something confirmed by this latest leaked photo. Sadly, the photo is reportedly that of a dev kit, which doesn't bode well for what the PS5 will actual actually look like.
