Tons of Pantech concept phone pictures

Pantech, like many other companies has been working on a lot of gadgets. The most notable device is of course the Helio Ocean. The Ocean was a big hit at CTIA this year, so wouldn’t you like to see what else they’ve been working on?

CTIA Wireless: New Phones debut from Pantech

Today mobile phone manufacturer announced the release of five new US phones including the “world’s smallest camera flip phone.”

First up we’ll look at the Pantech C3b which is an update to their “world’s smallest camera flip phone.” It has a few new features including Bluetooth and changeable color faceplates. You’ll also see mobile email, a VGA camera with flash and 4x digital zoom, an instant messaging client, and even a flashlight. All of this is crammed into a tiny 69 x 43 x 20.3mm package.

Helio Dual-Slider Messenger handset leaked on FCC

Helio Dual-Slider Messenger handset leaked on FCC

I’ve got a lot of love for Helio, and even more now with this SICK QWERTY-ready messenger handset (just need to remind myself not to call it a phone!).

While the official name is still unknown, it’s internally being called Pantech PN-810. The phone sports a similar design to Samsung’s F520 which – a dual slider. So basically when sliding the top layer up, in landscape view reveals a QWERY keyboard. And while in portrait view, sliding the top layer up reveals the number keypad. This is a very nifty design; and it’s about damn time Helio offers something this cool!

So what are the specs you can expect on this bad boy? First of all, EV-DO radio, 2.1-megapixel camera with built-in flash, and a 260k TFT LCD.

Pantech’s new suit is aluminium

Pantech seems to have crept up from behind and managed to make something of a name for itself in the cellphone business, striking an interesting balance between functionality and style.  That’s not to say that they necessarily have the best timing.  For instance, from the press release for their IM-U170:

“The IM-U170 will come to the fore as a breakthrough in the metallic mobile phone segment”

Now not wishing to pour the sloppy water of scorn onto you, Pantech, but you might have noticed the sleek aluminium iPhone Apple quietly announced the other day.  So let’s look at the U170 in the same light that most other people will (albeit in Korea, apparently its sole market).

Pantech launches new widescreen DMB

Pantech has just announced the launch of their Sky brand IM-U160 handset, a new terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) handset that can be used as a portable TV with its wide LCD screen. Featuring a 2.6-inch wide QVGA LCD screen and a width to height ratio of 15:9, the IM-U160 aims to deliver a better visually enhanced TV viewing experience for mobile phone users.

The IM-U160 sports just a minimal set of touch sensitive buttons on the face with a hidden slide-out conventional keypad below. The internal memory has a capacity of 184MB and can be expanded via external Micro SD card. Other features include 2-megapixel camera and Mp3 player. To be a Korea-only release for now.

Pantech concept wins design award

Sometimes you get press releases through that are basically companies crowing about whatever award they’ve won recently, often awards that you’ve never heard of and, oddly, never hear of again afterwards.  But here’s one occasion when I think a company deserves it – Pantech have won the iF Design Award for Excellence & Innovation for, among other things, their Flexus 03 concept cellphone.

A slender slider with a trackball and Moto PEBL-esque keypad, here’s hoping the Flexus 03 gets earmarked for production soon!
