Facebook Spaces is launching today on Oculus VR, a virtual social network for avatars automatically created from your photos and galleries of your friends. The next step in the social site's embrace of virtual reality, it's effectively a live VR conference call - though clearly billed as something a lot more fun than that. Importantly, Facebook is making the barrier to taking part as low as possible.

Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are amazing and you shouldn’t buy them

I've worked with and played with both Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, and both of them are fantastic and amazing. But I wouldn't buy them myself. I've had both devices for extended periods of time, trying out some of the most fantastic games and making an effort to try new experiences to immerse myself in the future. But that's just it. Using either headset is a very solitary experience. It's not the sort of experience I'd recommend to friends. It can be fantastic, but only really for me.

Oculus VR Preview – Eagle Flight

If there's anything I've learned about virtual reality, it's that you have to go into it with an open mind. Sometimes you'll see a game, and think that there's no way that it will be anything more than slightly amusing. That's how I felt about Eagle Flight, until I strapped in and started playing it.

Oculus VR Preview – Dead and Buried

While I was at Oculus's preview event, there was one game that stood out among the rest. Namely because everyone kept telling me that I needed to try it. Plus, every time I walked by the area where it was being demoed, the people playing looked like they were having a blast. The game was Dead and Buried.
