Crysis 3 on NVIDIA SHIELD with Android TV hands-on

The Android version of Crysis 3 has been revealed, and here it is - in a very early form. This game is set to be released later this year - likely at the same time as the NVIDIA SHIELD home entertainment device - but for now it's in a very early stage of development. This is not a GRID game - it's running natively on Android. This is a real-deal Android game we'll be able to download from Google Play for NVIDIA SHIELD later this year.

The living room-based center of the NVIDIA SHIELD family has been revealed this week at GDC 2015, and we've had the opportunity to get up close and personal. This device goes by the name NVIDIA SHIELD - see more about that naming convention in our first detail article if you must - and it's made to sit beside your television. Our first experience with the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV device was with a developer iteration, but it's set to be essentially the same beast when it's released later this year.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes coming to NVIDIA GRID

Kenichiro Imaizumi, Senior Producer for Konami spoke up this week onstage during the NVIDIA SHIELD presentation. He spoke about NVIDIA GRID - and the fact that Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes would be released to NVIDIA GRID this year. This will be an updated version of the game - not the original for PS4 and Xbox One. This version will be available for download and streaming this year. Because Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes is coming to this platform, it's basically a lock that the next episode will be released here as well.

NVIDIA GRID subscriptions begin in June for all SHIELD devices

NVIDIA GRID subscriptions begin in June for all SHIELD devices

This week it's been revealed that the NVIDIA GRID system will officially be leaving its free-for-all this June. That means users of the NVIDIA SHIELD Portable and the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet will have to start paying cash to NVIDIA to continue using the streaming gaming system known as NVIDIA GRID. That does NOT mean that anyone will have to start paying for NVIDIA GameStream. That's an entirely different monster. That piece of this equation will remain free for the foreseeable future.

Doom 3 Android release set for 2015

Doom 3 Android release set for 2015

This week at NVIDIA we've heard the good news - Doom 3 will be coming to Android. This is one of several games that've been brought to the mobile universe in collaboration with NVIDIA this season, prepped in this case with the NVIDIA Tegra X1 mobile processor in mind. This game will require the processing power of the NVIDIA Tegra X1, of course - or a processor with similar power - and NVIDIA nor the teams at id Software or Activision (who own the rights to Doom 3) have confirmed when the game will be released.

NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV revealed: 5 years in the making

Today NVIDIA has revealed their newest addition to the SHIELD family - an Android TV device called "SHIELD." This device is just called SHIELD. It essentially takes on the name of what's now (and has been since the Tablet) called the SHIELD Portable. That makes three devices - SHIELD, SHIELD Portable, and SHIELD Tablet. Together they make one big happy family for gaming in all sorts of different places. This solution is made to sit in the living room next to your TV rather than fit in your backpack or provide picture on its own.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Android Lollipop Review

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Android Lollipop Review

This week we've had a look at what it means to be rolling with the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet with a full Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. This isn't your everyday average upgrade - it's not like we're using the Nexus 9 that just happens to be branded by NVIDIA. Instead, this is the first non-Nexus tablet to receive the update, complete with NVIDIA's own apps under the hood. This is more than just a software update just for the sake of having the latest and greatest - this is a real-deal update of the abilities of the unit.

NVIDIA GRID streams PC games to SHIELD

NVIDIA GRID streams PC games to SHIELD

It's not just Lollipop that NVIDIA's SHIELD Tablet is getting, with NVIDIA GRID set to offer "Netflix for games" for the Android-based gaming tablet, and at a price that - for the moment, at least - can't be beat. Graduating from the beta that began almost a year ago, GRID effectively puts a whole server farm of GeForce GTX-equipped gaming PCs at SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD Portable owners' service, streaming titles like Batman Arkham City and Borderlands 2 at 60fps to the pair of gaming handhelds.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Lollipop release by November’s end

This week NVIDIA has shared the good news - the NVIDIA SHIELD will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop by the end of November 2014. That'll make it amongst the first devices on the market to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop - almost certainly just the second tablet to work with Lollipop. The first would be the Nexus 9, also powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor. NVIDIA SHIELD's update to Lollipop will also include updates to the NVIDIA SHIELD Hub app and the NVIDIA Dabbler app - lots and lots of tiny features.

Android Lollipop confirmed for NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

Android Lollipop confirmed for NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

As if you needed another reason to want the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, here’s one: this tablet will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop as soon as NVIDIA can muster it. This means everything we discussed yesterday in our Android Lollipop guide: everything a Nexus needs to know and likely more. NVIDIA has been really good about incorporating Google’s must-have features for Nexus devices into their own tablet lineup and have incorporated some feature even Nexus devices don’t have yet - like on-device screen recording.
