Nintendo Switch Online Service details: pricing, NES games, cloud saves

Considering its wild success and its age in the market, it's almost unbelievable that the Nintendo Switch's accompanying Online Service hasn't launched yet. At least not in full and not with the paid subscription. That's all going to happen four months from now when the Nintendo Switch Online service finally opens its doors to more features. But before that happens, Nintendo is giving Switch owners an idea what they will be signing up for when they pay for a subscription.

Capcom isn't done celebrating Mega Man's 30th, though, and what is has planned next is something die-hard fans might want to pick up.

Yes, SNES Classic controllers work with the NES Classic (and vice versa)

The SNES Classic Edition will arrive later this week, and I spent the weekend positioned in front my review unit, reliving my childhood with Final Fantasy III. While my review of the device isn't coming up until later this week, there is something interesting I thought I'd share now: your NES Classic controller accessories are compatible with the SNES Classic. This is true the other way around, and it's all thanks to the Wii.

Nintendo Switch’s hidden “flog” emulator hides full NES Golf

Nintendo Switch’s hidden “flog” emulator hides full NES Golf

A little over two months ago, the Nintendo Switch community was brimming with excitement at the report that there might be a built-in emulator, oddly named “flog”, inside the Switch. Nothing came out of it since then, however, and it was mostly regarded as a dead end. Until now that is. Thanks to the investigations of SwitchBrew member yellows8, we may have an idea now why it was named “flog”. That’s because this emulator might have been made specifically for the classic NES Golf game alone, which apparently is also available inside every Switch console as well.

SNES Classic Mini pre-order cancelled? here’s your next chance

Nintendo's SNES Classic Mini pre-orders have been cancelled in droves over the past week. This seems to have happened largely in the UK, but some reports suggest the spread of this oversold device situation to the USA. Today we're having a peek at which stores have the console - or where the console will MAYBE be available in the near future. Like Best Buy, a company that had a pre-order session last night.

Rare NES game sells for a fortune (you won’t guess which one)

Rare NES game sells for a fortune (you won’t guess which one)

When it comes to game collecting, there are a lot of hard to find video games that cost a pretty penny. Unboxed copies of Chrono Trigger, for instance, routinely sell for more than $100 on eBay, while a handful of copies of the infamous Atari game E.T. the Extra Terrestrial sold for around $1,500 after being exhumed from a landfill in 2014. Those games and their prices, however, pale in comparison to one highly sought-after NES title: Stadium Events.

Nintendo Switch actually has a hidden NES emulator

Nintendo Switch actually has a hidden NES emulator

Console makers have a love/hate relationship with emulators. On the one hand, emulators walk the thin line between innocent emulation of legally owned games and piracy. On the other hand, console makers themselves are now known to make use of that very same technology for their own benefit, from the Xbox One’s backward compatibility to the tiny NES Classic. Now it seems Nintendo is yet again banking on emulation, this time for the Nintendo Switch as homebrew modders discover traces of one inside Nintendo’s latest console.

NES Classic discontinued due to lack of resources, Nintendo explains

It came as a surprise and disappointment to many around the world to learn earlier this month that Nintendo was discontinuing production of the NES Classic, especially when demand for it was still so high. However, Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime has forward this week to explain the company's decision, also noting that the mini retro console was originally intended to be a limited item for the 2016 holiday season.
