Microsoft Surface Pro 6 teardown: same old, same old

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 teardown: same old, same old

You'd be forgiven if you got a major case of deja vu seeing this year's new Surface Pro 6. Unless you got the savvy new matte black color, you might, like iFixit, think you bought a spare "new Surface Pro" (2017). The incremental upgrade path is almost similar to what Apple has successfully been doing with its MacBooks. And to really drive the MacBook similarity home, the Surface Pro 6 also enjoys the same low repairability score of Apple's premium notebooks.

Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2 now available for purchase

Not everyone is dying to have a new phone. Some, however, might be in dire need of a PC upgrade. A mobile PC, that is, even before Google and, now, Huawei had its time on stage, Microsoft took the spotlight to reveal its latest Surface products. Many of those have been leaked beforehand though at least one accessory came as a complete surprise. Of course, that was just the announcemnt. Fortunately for Surface fans and would be Surface fans, the wait is over now that at least two of these devices are finally on Microsoft Stores shelves.

Surface All Access: The fine print

Surface All Access: The fine print

The cost of a Surface device can be spread out over the course of two years, thanks to the new Surface All Access plans revealed by Microsoft this week. These plans read like car loans, or buying a phone from T-Mobile: You pay for the whole device, but you don't do it all at once. The deal is done with Microsoft, but it's "made possible by Dell Financial Services." So more users can access Surface devices faster, and more realistically.

Surface Pro 6 (2018) first impressions and hands-on

This afternoon we got the opportunity to get our hands on the newest version of the Microsoft Surface Pro. That's the Microsoft Surface Pro 6, the 2018 edition of the tablet-with-kickstand. This is extremely similar to its predecessor, coming with the same overall size, same display, hinge on its kickstand, and connectivity. This device has a single full-sized USB port, mini Display port, and a proprietary Surface connector.

Surface Pro 6 (2018) official: Price, Release Date, Details

Today Microsoft's Panos Panay stood on stage and revealed a new device - sort of. This was the Surface Pro 6, in four colors - one of which was new. The Surface Pro is back for another season, this time in black. This device is extremely similar to the otherwise most recent Surface Pro, save in the newness of its processor and availability of different combinations of internal storage and RAM. Like other products revealed by Microsoft today, it is as if the company looked at its product line and said, hey, we've got a pretty good thing going on, let's stay the course!

Surface Pro and Surface Laptop update leaks have some terrible news

Surface Pro and Surface Laptop update leaks have some terrible news

Microsoft's big event may make relatively small changes this week in New York City, with its Surface refresh tipped to play it safe - or even disappointing - as it heads into holiday sales season. The software giant has summoned the media to NYC on Tuesday, October 2nd to reveal the latest fruits of its Surface computing team. However, some early leaks have spoiled the surprise a little.

Surface Pro 6 leak is going to disappoint fans

Surface Pro 6 leak is going to disappoint fans

Microsoft’s Ignite event is currently ongoing but it won’t be until next week that it’s expected to make the big Surface product announcements. But if you were waiting for a big splash for the Surface Pro 6, if it will indeed be called that, you might be in for a disappointment. Because based on the first, and probably only, leaked hands-on of Microsoft’s premium 2-in-1 tablet, the Surface Pro 6 isn’t going to be that much different from the Surface Pro 5, a.k.a. the Surface Pro (2017), from last year.

Kensington Dock is the Surface Studio mini you’ve always wanted

Kensington Dock is the Surface Studio mini you’ve always wanted

While the Surface Pro 2-in-1 tablets were a surprise hit, they weren’t exactly a revolutionary device at a time when 2-in-1 tablets were becoming more common. Few, however, expected Microsoft to come up with the Surface Studio. It was a creative’s dream come true, if not for the obscenely high price tag and, to some extent, the huge size as well. What if you already have a recent Surface Pro and was fine with that size but wanted the flexibility and stability of a Surface Studio. Thankfully, accessory maker Kensington now has an answer for that: the SD7000 Dual 4K Surface Pro Docking Station.

I want a Microsoft Surface GO with goOS

I want a Microsoft Surface GO with goOS

Microsoft released the hardware I'd like to use with software like macOS, but Microsoft released the device with Windows 10 onboard. Apple won't likely release anything smaller than a MacBook Air with macOS onboard, ever - but I still want one. Or maybe what I want is top-notch hardware with a capable operating system without all the junk on Windows that only ever gets in the way of my everyday computing activities. I want something like Windows, but without the junk - I want something we'll call goOS.

Microsoft Surface USB-C dongle is a joke

Microsoft Surface USB-C dongle is a joke

It’s almost embarrassing, at least for Microsoft, that Apple would be at the forefront of pushing new standards like USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 while its premier flagship computers obstinately remain in the recent past. Admittedly, there are business reasons for doing clinging to USB-A and DisplayPorts but Microsoft seems to have intentionally missed the USB-C boat even in its latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. It promised to dangle a dongle in front of USB-C lovers and that promise is nearly fulfilled. USB-C lovers, however, would probably feel insulted rather than assured.
