Missed the big Surface Pro reveal? Now you can re-live it

Microsoft's big Surface Pro announcement this week saw the long-anticipated update of its tablet, but you'd be forgiven for missing the whole thing. The decision to hold the event in China meant that you'd have needed to get up pretty early in order to watch the livestream from North America. That's a shame, as Microsoft devices chief Panos Panay spared no enthusiasm around why the Surface Pro should be in your bag.

Chuwi SurBook challenges the Surface Pro at the best possible time

Chuwi SurBook challenges the Surface Pro at the best possible time

Microsoft has just announced the New Surface Pro and if you were expecting something groundbreaking, you probably went home disappointed. Sure, it has its fair share of small upgrades and new features, but even Microsoft itself didn't call it the Surface Pro 5 probably for that reason. While the new 2-in-1 will remain a sort of reference device, Microsoft has left the door open for other PC makers to try and do one better. It is at this time that Chinese OEM Chuwi is launching its SurBook, whose name is an obvious reference to Microsoft's Surface line. But while some might consider the timing of the launch ill-fated, given the New Surface Pro reveal, the other side of the coin is that the stars are actually aligning in Chuwi's favor.

Surface Pro has some great news (and some bad)

Surface Pro has some great news (and some bad)

At first glance, Microsoft has knocked the new Surface Pro out of the park. Coming hot on the heels of the Surface Laptop, the tablet-that's-a-notebook (and which mustn't be called the Surface Pro 5, oh no) could've been overshadowed by its Alcantara-clad clamshell sibling. Instead, Microsoft has gone down the wishlist of existing owners and ticked all the boxes. Well, all apart from one.

This is the New Microsoft Surface Pro

This is the New Microsoft Surface Pro

As expected, Microsoft didn't announce a new Surface Pro 2-in-1 at its Shanghai event. It, instead, announce "The New Surface Pro". No number this time, perhaps to hide the fact that this Surface Pro might not be worthy of a bump in digit. That said, with the refinements that Microsoft bestowed on this New Unnumbered Surface Pro, it still deserves to be given a deeper look, especially for those upgrading from a much older Surface Pro model.

Don’t expect Surface Pro 5 anytime soon

With the Surface Pro 4 launching way back in October 2015, there are some who are ready to see a follow up wait a Surface Pro 5. Ahead of Microsoft's education event last week, there were plenty of rumors about such a device, but the event came and went without any official announcements. Instead, Microsoft introduced us to the new Surface Laptop, a premium notebook aimed at college students who usually opt for the more expensive MacBook.

Microsoft Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 might skip April event

Microsoft Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 might skip April event

Forget the Surface Phone, there might not even be a new Surface Book or Surface Pro. At least not in Microsoft's Spring event next month. Given what the Surface Book 2 is rumored to be, which is quite different from its predecessor, there might be no tears shed. Microsoft does have a new Surface device prepared, however, though what exactly that will be is still anyone's guess.

Microsoft teams with Steelcase to pair Surface with creative-friendly furniture

Microsoft teams with Steelcase to pair Surface with creative-friendly furniture

Microsoft sees a market for their work-friendly Surface products, but one that could benefit from the right furniture. To make this a reality, Microsoft has paired up with the folks at Steelcase to create Creative Spaces. Each of these spaces showcases the potential for welcome, workable, inspiring places to work. They've all got multiple Microsoft Surface products inside, of course.

Eve V 2-in-1 tries to beat the Surface Pro at its own game

Eve V 2-in-1 tries to beat the Surface Pro at its own game

It’s hard to deny the effect that Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets have had on the computing landscape. Despite a rocky start, the “tablet that can replace your laptop” has created a new category that now everyone is trying to emulate or compete with, including, to some extent, Apple. There is, however, always room for something better, which is what Finnish startup Eve Tech is proposing with the Eve V. And, unlike Microsoft, the Eve V was designed right from the start with consumers on the co-pilot seat.

Surface Pro power cords to be recalled over damage issues

Surface Pro power cords to be recalled over damage issues

Microsoft is recalling some power cords for older Surface Pro models, according to a new report. The recall will reportedly take place due to overheating concerns, and may be of a trade-in variety, meaning owners will hand over their old potentially faulty cord in exchange for a new power cable. The recall, if the source is correct, will be officially announced this upcoming Friday.

Surface Pro 4 revealed: 6th-gen Intel Core, glass trackpad, 12.3-inch display

Surface Pro 4 revealed: 6th-gen Intel Core, glass trackpad, 12.3-inch display

Playing Thunderstruck by AC/DC, Microsoft introduced the Surface Pro 4. This device works with a hybrid cooling system, a 12.3-inch display, and a fingerprint sensor. Microsoft suggested this morning that the device works with 1024 levels of pressure for the Surface's stylus, and that the device's keyboards have "better spacing." The cover - the keyboard cover, the non-keyboard cover - is also thinner. At 8.4mm thin, this is what Microsoft's Panos Panay suggests is the "thinnest most powerful Surface yet." With an Intel 6th Gen processor inside, we're inclined to agree.

Windows 8: what Microsoft did right and what went wrong

Windows 8: what Microsoft did right and what went wrong

Windows 10 is coming really soon. If AMD is to be believed, that is happening around July. Given this upcoming version of Windows is set to fix a number of complaints about Windows 8, it's release will surely call to mind some its predecessor's shortcomings. But for all the warts that Windows 8 had, it wasn't completely a failure in all aspects and even laid the foundations of many features and mindsets still present in Windows 10 and elsewhere. Here we take a look at 5 of the things Windows 8 could have gotten right and also how they failed to reach the mark.
