Google removes View Image from results, part of Getty settlement

Google Search has effectively put the world’s information at our fingertips. It is, however, a two-edged sword that may have also made it too easy for people to circumvent certain laws, particularly copyrights and trademarks. Google has always come under fire for that but things came to a head when stock photography website Getty Images lodged a complaint against it in Europe, where Google has a track record of losing. Last week, the two reached a settlement that will see Google change some things in its image search. That starts now with its removal of the “View Image” button in image search results.

Google Pixel is at the center of a new class action complaint

Seeing consumers launch class action lawsuits against giant companies is a relatively common thing, and today, Google is in the crosshairs. Google has been hit with a class action complaint alleging that it didn't honor warranties for the original Pixel and Pixel XL when it became clear that the phones suffered from microphone defects. The complaint was filed by Girard Gibbs LLP in San Jose, the same law firm that recently handled the class action lawsuit surrounding the bootloop issue some LG phones experienced.

The last few months have seen Epic Games' Fortnite build up into one of today's most popular online multiplayer titles, especially on PC, and that means the developer is now working hard to dissuade and fight back against cheaters. Recently, that's included copyright infringement lawsuits against those who've coded their own cheats to guarantee themselves wins. But now the developer has filed a suit against a player for effectively stealing from them.

“Steve Jobs” trademark now belongs to an Italian fashion startup

The late Steve Jobs will forever be associated with Apple (and the ill-fated NeXT), its products, and his contributions to modern computing. That, however, doesn’t mean that the eyes of the law will see things the same way. In Italy, for example, “Steve Jobs”, as a trademark, legally belongs to an Italian fashion company and, try as it might, Apple is unable to say otherwise.

Apple faces lawsuit over purposely slowing down older iPhones

Apple faces lawsuit over purposely slowing down older iPhones

Apple might now be regretting its decision to formally admit a course of action that has earned it not just criticisms but now a lawsuit as well. Geekbench and Reddit earlier speculated that Apple was intentionally throttling down the performance of older iPhone models with older batteries. The company then admitted to the act but defended it as a safeguard and a feature to keep iPhones safe for use. Users are not having any of it and at least two want to take Apple to court for doing such without even informing users.

Apple sued over iPhone 7, 8 dual camera patents

Another day, another patent infringement lawsuit. Apple is definitely no stranger to such, being one of the largest targets in the industry. Being big only inspires many would-be Davids to try and take a shot at the Goliath. The latest lawsuit, however, strikes at the heart of one of Apple’s most recent victories, its dual cameras. A startup based in Tel Aviv is suing Apple for infringing on its dual camera tech. More interesting, however, is the accusation that Apple even boasted it could get away with it.

Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2 problems could land Google in a lawsuit

That PR nightmare could soon turn into a legal tussle. If law firm Girard Gibbs LLP gets its way, Google will indeed be facing class action charges over its less than impressive production of its 2018 flagships, the Pixel 2 but most especially the Pixel 2 XL. The latter has been specifically plagued by problems related to its display, from drab colors to burn-ins. While Google has mostly responded by promising software fixes coming soon, Girard Gibbs thinks that consumers deserve more in return for their emotional distress.
