Espresso machine made from concrete sounds gross

Espresso machine made from concrete sounds gross

I'm not a coffee drinker, but until my wife has a few cups I don’t even like to look at her lest she smite me with early morning grumpiness. She uses a coffee maker made from plastic like most things today. If you like your coffee, but prefer it in a stronger espresso form and like really industrial looking designs the Lavazza is for you.

Hammacher Schlemmer offers Healthiest Deep Fryer

Hammacher Schlemmer offers Healthiest Deep Fryer

If you are trying to get healthy and have a penchant for fried foods like fries and chicken things can be rough. Fired foods tend to have more fat and calories than baked stuff thanks to all the oil needed to deep-fry something.

Waffle on a stick is perfect for carnies

Waffle on a stick is perfect for carnies

Summer is here and the kids are under my feet constantly as I try to work every day. One thing I can count on as soon as my 5-year-old daughter rolls her crazy-haired head out of bed is that she will want her "waftuls" otherwise known as waffles. Shortly after the waffles are eaten, she will want her first of 157 popsicles of the day.

Samsung Zipel WiFi refrigerator packs DLNA streaming & Google Calendar

Samsung Zipel WiFi refrigerator packs DLNA streaming & Google Calendar

Think back to January and you might recall Samsung clearing WiFi certification with a refrigerator bearing a built-in digital photo frame.  Snap forward to today, and witness the awesome white-goods power of the Samsung Zipel SRT746AWTN, a double-door fridge with an integrated 10-inch touchscreen.

With that touchscreen - and the Zipel's WiFi b/g support - you can browse the internet, stream media via DLNA, take notes and even pull up nutritional information for more than 500 different types of food.  It'll also show Google Calendar entries and weather reports, again with internet updates, as well as news alerts and other articles.  Slap in a memory card (no telling what type) or hook up some sort of wireless storage and the Samsung Zipel can show a slideshow of your favorite photos, which is frankly much better than sticking on rubbish painted pasta pictures that your offspring comes home with and expects you to fawn over.

Fruit slide is better than tossing your apples in a bowl

Fruit slide is better than tossing your apples in a bowl

We go through a lot of fruit in my house. My daughter eats apples like most kids eat ice cream. The catch is that if the apples get bruised from sitting in a bowl or dropped she doesn't eat them because the brown spots are gross. A new way to hold your apples and keep them from being bruised has surfaced called the Fruit Slide.

Samsung SRT746AWTN WiFi refrigerator with digital photo frame tipped

WiFi isn't the sort of thing you'll usually find in a refrigerator - an old jar of mayo, perhaps, and a shrivelled looking tomato - but Samsung want to change that.  Fresh through WiFi certification [pdf link] is the Samsung SRT746AWTN, a refrigerator with an integrated digital photo frame.

WMF1 one-cup coffee machine wins points on style

WMF1 one-cup coffee machine wins points on style

While normally I'd suggest avoiding those single-use coffee pod machines, since you don't know when the beans were roasted or ground, I've a feeling I'll give the WMF1 a pass simply because of the excellent design.  Intended to product a single cup of coffee, the WMF1 has a distinctive niche for the supplied mug and a straightforward loading system.

Eee PC touchscreen kitchen PC hack [Video]

If you've ever been tempted by a touchscreen kitchen PC, but can't afford the high prices most off-the-shelf units command, then sidekick-x's nifty Eee PC hack may fit the bill.  He took a normal ASUS netbook, cracked it open, fitted a touchscreen layer and then integrated it neatly into a kitchen cupboard.

Bugatti Vera kettle offers timer, temp control, huge price tag

It's time to unpack the wedding china and start cutting the crusts off your sandwiches; as soon as whatever nearby minor royalty hears you're boiling your water with a Bugatti kettle, they'll be round like a shot.  The handiwork of the same studio responsible for the indecently-fast Veyron supercar, the Vera Electric Kettle offers not only some eye-catching colors but a control-encrusted handle with LCD display.

ChefStack automatic pancake machine: kitchen heaven

ChefStack automatic pancake machine: kitchen heaven

As someone who was banned from even considering bringing an automatic donut machine into the kitchen, you can't begin to imagine how impressed I am with the ChefStack automatic pancake machine.  Capable of producing 200 pancakes per hour with minimal human intervention, the ChefStack works from pre-filled bags of pancake batter fitted with special nozzles.

Oster touchscreen blender: careful where you poke your fingers

Oster touchscreen blender: careful where you poke your fingers

Oster may be better known for their retro-styled blenders, but the company is attempting to claw its way into the 21st century with the launch of this, the Oster eLume Touchscreen blender.  Topped by a 6-cup capacity glass, dishwasher-safe jug, the blender's most obvious departure from tradition is the backlit touchscreen control panel.

It actually makes more than a little sense to use a touchscreen rather than rotary or push-button controls, before you accuse Oster of pandering to the latest interface fetish.  Since the display is flat and crevice-free, it's easy to wipe clean and keep free of old food that could present a future hygiene hazard.
