Snapchat’s iPhone X AR Lenses are finally here

Snapchat has launched its special iPhone X Lenses, with the more accurately-placed augmented reality masks taking advantage of Apple's TrueDepth front camera. The new iPhone X Lenses were part of Apple's big reveal for the smartphone in September last year, and indeed one of the few things the company demonstrated that tapped into the complex camera array.

OnePlus 6 can’t help copying iPhone X

These days, it seems like a lot of new and upcoming Android phones are sporting a very familiar notch at the top of the display. Though Apple's iPhone X wasn't the first phone to utilize a notch as a solution to including front-facing sensors on a phone with a full screen display, it has certainly sparked a number of imitators in the time since its release. Today we're learning that the upcoming OnePlus 6 may borrow another popular feature from Apple's latest flagship: Gesture controls.

With MicroLED, an Apple Watch could be a gateway drug for pricer iPhones

Apple's manufacturing partners are gearing up for MicroLED production if news from Taiwan proves to be entirely accurate. According to sources close to the deal, Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology approved a PlayNitride application for a brand new $17-million USD (NT$500 million) manufacturing plant at Hsinchu Science Park. This is one of a couple companies rumored to be in talks with Apple for future MicroLED display panel production on devices of several sorts.

OnePlus 6’s inescapable notch explained by Carl Pei

OnePlus 6’s inescapable notch explained by Carl Pei

The OnePlus 6 is going to have a notch. That’s no longer an open question, especially after OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei admitted as much. But he was quick to add how it’s not simply just to copy Apple but for practical benefit as well. It just so happen that Apple got that idea first. He also notes that the OnePlus 6 will still have a chin and a headphone jack, two things that no iPhone will ever have again.

The new iPad is perfect for this Darkest Timeline

The new iPad is perfect for this Darkest Timeline

This week Apple introduced a new iPad made of old parts, with a couple new features in tow. I believe this was the most ideal piece of hardware Apple could possibly have released in this darkest timeline. I'm speaking of course of the Community-solidified concept of the Darkest Timeline, the reality in which all of the most extremely unbelievable (if not most evil) thing have come to fruition. This is not the worst Apple could have done - it's their best defense against disaster in these dark days through which we're living.

OnePlus 6 release tipped best iPhone X clone of all

OnePlus 6 release tipped best iPhone X clone of all

Leaks today show the OnePlus 6 to come in more than one material with a notch'ed display design. This might well be the non-T OnePlus phone users have been waiting for - if not for the company's abandonment of their low-end price-destructor attitude a couple years ago. Now it's just OnePlus trying to be Apple, coming with a OnePlus 6 with the frontside of an iPhone X.

2nd gen iPhone X price will be this low

2nd gen iPhone X price will be this low

The iPhone X is either Apple’s biggest hit or worst sales pitch, depending on who you ask. While there is little doubt that the iPhone X is one of the best smartphones of late, it’s price tag effectively scared off many would-be buyers. This year, Apple is reported to be correcting that error by introducing two new iPhone X successors, one of which will at least be $100 cheaper than the first iPhone X.

Foldable iPhone could upend smartphones in 2020

Foldable iPhone could upend smartphones in 2020

Apple is working on a foldable iPhone that it could launch as soon as 2020, analysts have predicted, the biggest form-factor change the best-selling smartphone has ever seen. The Cupertino company has already marked the iPhone's tenth anniversary with 2017's iPhone X, adopting OLED screen technology, a controversial screen "notch," and ditching the familiar home button in the process.

Android phones to ape Apple TrueDepth 3D sensors next year

The market has long been aware of what Apple might launch with the iPhone X and yet it seems that it has caught Android manufacturers unprepared to fight back. From the notch to 3D face recognition, Android OEMs are now scrambling to copy what they think are the iPhone X’s greatest strengths. Famed KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo predicts that it won’t be until next year that such manufacturers will be able to catch up, and the first one will be, unsurprisingly, Huawei.

Report: Bigger phones use more of your time

Report: Bigger phones use more of your time

The larger the phone, the more screen time a user tends to clock. That's what a study published this week suggests. The study comes from the folks at AppOptix and consists of data from 4,000 users surveyed over the entirety of the year 2017. There, they've shown that phones with displays less then 4.6-inches use their devices FAR less than those with displays 5.5-inches or larger. Your big fat phone is making you a phone zombie!

5.85-inch OLED iPhone will be cheaper to make then iPhone X

Depending on who you ask, the iPhone X is either Apple’s biggest success or a retail flop. Its reported cut in OLED display orders from Samsung may point to the latter. Because of that, some may have presumed that Apple is done with flirting with OLED screens and that the iPhone X may have been a one-time thing. On the contrary, analysts are now reporting that there will be two OLED iPhones this year and one of them, a 5.85-inch model, might, in fact, be the cheapest iPhone this year.

Bezel vs Notch: which is the lesser evil?

Bezel vs Notch: which is the lesser evil?

There’s not stopping the notch. Not unless Apple, who can be credited/blamed for it, does as rumored. Even Google seems to be making provisions for a future where the notch will be more than just a thing. Discussing the notch, however, is impossible without discussing the problem it’s supposed to solve: bezels. But are bezels really the bane of smartphone existence that OEMs seem to paint them to be? Or are we becoming too obsessed with pushing them out that we have resorted to tricks like notches?
