iPhone X discontinued? Not so fast

iPhone X discontinued? Not so fast

News from analysts today suggests the iPhone X is about to be discontinued - but WAIT. Don't flip out too quick about this mind-blowing bit of possible future news from Apple - for several reasons. First, it's not news yet, it's analysis - until Apple says so, the iPhone X remains in production. Second, even if the iPhone X is "discontinued," that does not mean we're going to be losing the notch any time soon. That notch isn't going anywhere quick.

Here in the summer of 2018 there's a lull in technological advancements in smartphones. Cheap iPhone X “confirmed” in new images

The budget-friendly iPhone X model rumored earlier this year was seemingly "confirmed" by a set of images from the folks at Ghostek. While generally we're not all about using case-maker images as confirmation alone, the folks at Ghostek seem to have had access to early images of the last couple Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Today we're looking at what appears to be the least expensive of the pack of three devices coming to Apple's iPhone X collection later this year.

Apple’s best-selling phone isn’t iPhone X, Galaxy S9 fades

Apple might want to reconsider their next-phase set of iPhones if the rumors are true. Word was that Apple will be releasing three devices, all with iPhone X-like displays. In the weeks and months after the iPhone X was first released, that one phone dominated shipments around the world, according to Strategy Analytics back in Q1, 2018. Now it would appear that the tide has turned, somewhat - for sales, anyway.

2018 iPhones will trump Android in these two ways

2018 iPhones will trump Android in these two ways

The Android market has been pretty eventful these past months, with curious innovations like Vivo’s and Oppo’s elevating cameras and ASUS ROG’s gaming phone. That’s not to say, of course, that the iPhone is missing out on new features. It just so happens that Apple tends to focus more on practical innovation rather than fanciful ones. Take, for example, the upcoming iPhones which, based on new leaks, could one-up Android in two areas: dual SIM support and CPU performance.

Apple’s cunning 2018 iPhone plan is getting clearer

Apple's 2018 iPhone range is expected to include three new models, including a new iPhone X and a larger iPhone X Plus, and a preview video is making it clear just how clever the Cupertino firm is being about it. Although this obviously won't be the first time Apple has announced three new iPhones at one event, it could prove fairly confusing given the typical signifiers addressing "Which is the best iPhone?" won't hold true.

iPhone X Plus, LCD iPhone dummies show what’s coming next

It’s one thing to see 3D renders of upcoming smartphones but it’s quite a different experience to see them in the flesh, so to speak. Especially when you put them side by side with existing phones. Fortunately, there are a few enterprising individuals, not to mention accessory makers, who are more than capable of producing even just dummy units to fondle and gawk at. Such is the case with the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus and 6.1-inch LCD “iPhone 9” whose models give us and our hands a hint at what’s to come.

Niantic AR will traverse the real 3D world

Today Niantic demonstrated "Niantic Real World Platform" - an Augmented Reality platform that's mightily impressive. This is a little bit different than what's offered by Apple with ARKit, and it's not exactly like what Google has with ARCore. Instead, it's got Pokemon. Instead, it's more focused on the sorts of situations presented in Pokemon GO - since that's where their work began. What they've got this week is a demonstration that'll make you smile.
