iPhone X drop tests remain inconclusive

iPhone X drop tests remain inconclusive

Given the iPhone X’s $1,000 price tag, the biggest concern consumers have isn’t going to be whether Face ID can be fooled by their long-lost twin sibling. It will be whether the most expensive iPhone ever will survive an accidental drop from your hand, pocket, or bag. Compounding matters is the fact that a screen replacement will cost $279 while a back replacement will cost $549, at least without an AppleCare+ extended warranty. So how does the iPhone X fare in such unwanted incidents? Unfortunately, tests don’t exactly give an answer to those.

The iPhone X has the best smartphone display around

The iPhone X has the best smartphone display around

With all the attention on OLED screens lately, all eyes - no pun intended - have been on the iPhone X's first use of the technology. While the early feedback from reviewers has been glowing, it's now time for the panel experts to weigh in, and if you're Apple the news is good. Turns out, Samsung Display has made the iPhone X a very good screen.

Nintendo needs to make Pokemon Animoji for iPhone X like, yesterday

Nintendo needs to make Pokemon Animoji for iPhone X like, yesterday

I've seen the Animoji in Apple's iPhone X and I cannot understand how Nintendo is not already a partner. How on earth is Nintendo not already working with The Pokemon Company, for example, to bring Pikachu Animoji to the iPhone X? Or maybe they already are, and we just have to wait until Apple opens the doors to 3rd-party contributions!

iPhone X keyboard gap: There’s a reason for that

iPhone X keyboard gap: There’s a reason for that

The iPhone X launched last week, and it represents a big change from what iPhone users are used to in a handset. Some of these differences are much more obvious than others - the edge-to-edge OLED display and the missing home button will be the two differences that are immediately noticeable for many. However, there are plenty of smaller changes to be found within the iPhone X, and one that has been getting some attention is the new look of the iOS keyboard.

Did this iPhone X warning come thanks to Google?

Did this iPhone X warning come thanks to Google?

Over the weekend, iPhone X support documents revealed a bit of a warning about the newest phone in Apple's collection. Warning - or warnings, plural - included how the user's experience with an OLED display might go. This is important because Apple's never used an OLED display before - but that's probably not the only reason this set of paragraphs of warning were put in place.

I love this iPhone X Face ID feature – but it could be better

I love this iPhone X Face ID feature – but it could be better

The internet may be obsessed with Animoji karaoke right now, but the iPhone X's Face ID has captured my attention - no pun intended - in another way. The TrueDepth camera is at the root of some of the most controversial elements of the iPhone X, its presence forcing the notched display and ousting the apparently beloved Touch ID fingerprint sensor, for example. Still, as I'm living with the iOS smartphone day to day, I'm growing increasingly convinced that those compromises were worth it.

iPhone X Face ID could be trained to recognize similar looking faces

iPhone X Face ID could be trained to recognize similar looking faces

Apple is naturally no stranger to controversy, especially when it comes to iPhones and its biometric security systems. There were some raised questions and eyebrows when it first introduced Touch ID and there are even more now after it launched Face ID on the iPhone X. It was almost as if Apple were daring people to prove the 3D face recognition technology to be as fallible as some critics suggest. While indubitable proof has yet to be presented, two brothers may have come across a way to train Face ID to accept someone else’ face. Provided that someone else looks like you.

Samsung ad takes shots at 10 years of iPhone “innovation”

Samsung ad takes shots at 10 years of iPhone “innovation”

The “X” in the iPhone X isn’t a reference to some mutant superhero team. It is a reference to the 10th generation iPhone, which is probably going to cause some confusion on how to call the $1,000 model. Just a week in, it has already been garnering positive reviews, and raising some questions, all on par for another Apple bestseller. So what is an eternal rival like Samsung to do? Why make an ad, of course! Specifically, one that “celebrates” the iPhone’s 10 years while calling attention to the things that it missed out on in those 10 years that, naturally, Samsung has today.

iPhone X durability makes the price a bit easier to stomach

iPhone X durability makes the price a bit easier to stomach

There is little doubt that the iPhone X, whether you call it an “x” or a “ten”, is the most notable iPhone ever since the smartphone launched 10 years ago. Which is probably a perfect fit for being a 10th anniversary model. The iPhone X throws out many long-held Apple conventions and features that users might be wondering if the iPhone has become even more fragile than some recent models have been. JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson has some good news, except, perhaps, for the one thing that he usually doesn’t test.

Apple warns of iPhone X OLED burn-in

The iPhone X has finally been released, and those lucky enough to get their hands on the expensive device are now enjoying features like Face ID, Animoji, and its Super Retina OLED display. But as this is the first iPhone to feature OLED technology, Apple has released a new support document that advises users of its differences from previous iPhone models, as well as issues they might experience over time.

Apple’s iPhone X Leather Folio case is really slick

Apple’s iPhone X Leather Folio case is really slick

A new case design may not be as exciting as a new iPhone X, but Apple does have a third option in its official accessories line-up today. I've just been checking it out, and I'm actually impressed.
