2016 Chevrolet Volt first drive

2016 Chevrolet Volt first drive

Not all electric cars are created equal and, as Chevrolet proved with the first-generation Volt, there's more than one way to wean drivers off gasoline. Fans of electric vehicles can debate pure-EV, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and any other combination all they like; at the end of the day I'm a pragmatist, and so for me it's the Volt's ability to boost fuel-efficiency without introducing range anxiety - and without being too pious in the process - that makes the second-gen 2016 car so appealing.

ASUS outs Transformer Book T100HA, Flip TP200SA convertibles

In less than a month, Microsoft might have a new Surface Pro 4 to wow consumers hoping to get their hands on some fancy new 2-in-1 device. But it is unlikely everyone will be able to afford Microsoft's usually high end tablets. For those on a tighter budget but still need productivity in an even more portable form, ASUS is putting out the Transformer Book T100HA and Transformer Book Flip FP200SA, the latest members of its growing line of tablet/laptop hybrids trying to corner the mid-range Windows market.

2016 Toyota Prius literally descends in Las Vegas

2016 Toyota Prius literally descends in Las Vegas

With an event that eschews the traditional and literal unveiling for a more heart-stopping descent from ceiling to showroom floor and a tagline that says "Sky's the limit", Toyota is unsubtly saying something about the fourth generation Prius that it has revealed at the LA Auto Show today. And perhaps there is justification for that. The 2016 Prius is definitely not 2009's model, having undergone a substantial and well needed change. And not just in form, but in the very parts that make up the whole.

Toyota pins hybrid hopes on new Prius in September

Toyota's new Prius will make its debut at the LA Auto Show in September, the 4th-generation of the hybrid and the car the Japanese company is counting on to reignite sales. Set to break cover on September 8th, the new Prius is expected to not only boost economy but power, too, addressing complaints that the eco-minded auto is lacking in driver appeal.

England set to trial charging tech for EVs and hybrids alongside major roadways

The British government is set to being trials for charging technology for hybrid and electric vehicles that may one day be placed on major A roads in the country. The trials will test the charging tech needed to allow drivers of EVs and plug-in hybrids to travel longer distances on electricity alone. The test doesn't involve charging stations placed at the side of the roads, rather the charging tech would allow batteries to be charged without the driver needing to stop.

2016 Chevy Volt gets 106 MPGe fuel economy rating

Chevrolet struggled this year with sales of the plug is hybrid Volt. In April, sales were so slow for the vehicle that Chevy halted production of the car for four weeks to allow unsold stock to move on dealerships around the country. Chevy hopes that the new 2016 Volt will woo more buyers with its improved efficiency and longer electric driving range.

New Fisker Karma aims for mid-2016 launch

New Fisker Karma aims for mid-2016 launch

Troubled luxury hybrid maker Fisker is aiming to get its reborn new Karma sedan on roads by mid-2016, the company's new management have revealed. The new Karma will be based on the gas-and-electric original model Fisker Automotive began producing in 2011, though final details are yet to be confirmed. A spate of vehicle fires and underwhelming sales forced Fisker into bankruptcy in 2013, at which point it was snapped up as a relative bargain - albeit one with a history in need of some serious PR massaging - by a Chinese auto-parts maker.

Quo vadis Tablet? The future of mobile slabs

Quo vadis Tablet? The future of mobile slabs

The once well-defined boundaries between computing devices, delineated by form factors, are blurring. PCs are no longer towering boxes but can also be found in something as small as an HDMI dongle. Laptops are no longer just rigid folding portable computers. There are smartphones that can barely fit in your hand, much less your pockets. And tablets, well, they've become less defined these days. They might also be less needed, threatened by phablets on one end and hybrid laptops on the other. Is there a future for tablets? Perhaps, but not without some major changes, particularly in how consumers see them.

Porsche sold a 919 Hybrid replica model for over $100k

Want to blow $100,000 in cash on a nice sports car? You've got plenty of options, like a Porsche for example. But how about getting a Porsche that can't be driven. No, not like it isn't street-legal, but in that it doesn't actually have an engine. That's what one lucky eBayer bought when Porsche auctioned off a non-functional replica model of its 919 Hybrid, the same vehicle that just won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Fisker said to reboot with new Elux model, California factory

Fisker, that other high-style, high-performance electric maker that didn't quite find the same success as Tesla, is said to be planning its rebirth after being saved from bankruptcy last year. This involves building a new factory in nearly the same neighborhood as Tesla Motor's Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada, or somewhere between Los Angeles and Palm Springs. The other development involves an introduction of a proper successor to the Fisker Karma.

Porsche breaks Audi’s 24 Hours of Le Mans 5-year record

Five years. That's how long Audi has held on to the crown of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. But on Sunday, Audi yielded the title to Porsche, who hasn't won the trophy since 1998. Porsche has just recently also returned to endurance race after 16 years of absence proving to be quite the surprise comeback. More than that, Porsche actually managed to nab five slots in the top five, with two of its cars earning the first two slots. Audi comes in at third and fourth.
