HTC Vive Pre steps into AR land with front-facing camera

HTC Vive Pre steps into AR land with front-facing camera

No, Vive Pre isn't the retail name of HTC's and Valve's virtual reality headset. The "Pre" there actually means "pre-release". What HTC is, in fact, announcing is the second generation of the developer edition of the Vive gear, both the headset as well as the controllers, featuring not just new designs but new abilities as well. In particular, the headset gets a new integrated outward front (outward) facing camera that lets it blend virtual and actual reality, taking the Vive into the realm of augmented reality and slightly closer to Microsoft's HoloLens.

HTC, Under Armour’s HealthBox: a kit for fitness buffs

HTC, Under Armour’s HealthBox: a kit for fitness buffs

What do you do when your first ever fitness product has been delayed indefinitely? Why, make three more! That seems to be the almost crazy thinking inside HTC, whose Grip wearable will never see the light of day. Or will it? HTC and Under Armor are announcing the UA HealthBox, which is basically a kit made up of a smart scale, a heart rate monitor, and, of course, a fitness band. They say that good things come in threes, and this HealthBox package might indeed be the break that HTC has been looking for in the fitness market.

HTC One X9 mid-range hero sounds a lot like the One A9

HTC One X9 mid-range hero sounds a lot like the One A9

After the usual overabundance of leaks and speculations, HTC has finally unveiled the One X9, right on the eve of Christmas. And, perhaps to the disappointment of some, it does match most of that unofficial information. The One X9 is indeed a metal-clad HTC hero, but more from its mid-range line than a flagship contender. Curiously, however, it bears an uncanny similarity to the One A9, another mid-range hero that the OEM has just recently launched in the US, which was a pleasant surprise. If not for the unpleasant surprise of its price tag.

Leaked HTC Vive images hint at redesigned controllers

Leaked HTC Vive images hint at redesigned controllers

Ever since HTC formally admitted that its Vive VR headset, done in collaboration with Valve, won't be coming until April next year, there has been no end to the speculation as to why that will be so. No official reason has been given, leaving some to wonder about possible problems. It seems that one of the reasons might actually be because of a redesign of the Vive controllers, which is a very welcome change considering what the developer edition looked like. At least based on this still unverified leak.

HTC phones from Deutsche Telekom to be banned in Germany

HTC's problems just keep on piling up. Now it has even reached Europe. The embattled Taiwanese manufacturers might be facing a sales ban of some of its smartphones in Germany, specifically those sold through local carrier Deutsche Telekom. This after a German court granted an injunction filed by Acacia Research Group on the grounds of patent infringement done by HTC.

HTC teases One X9 camera prowess, more photos leaked

Given HTC's standing in the smartphone market, any high profile or even mildly notable new device it is rumored to have will be something curious to watch, just to see if the OEM will finally stumble upon a winning, not to mention saving, handset. The One A9, with its mid-range specs and iPhonesque design, wasn't. And now it might be trying again with what is being referred to as the One X9, which may be yet another mid-ranger, but this time with a more talented camera, or so says HTC.

HTC One X9 prototype spied in the flesh (again)

The HTC One X9 hasn’t exactly been a closely guarded secret. The device has passed through TENAA in China resulting in a close look at most facets of the device. Latest HTC One X9 leaks move branding to the top

Latest HTC One X9 leaks move branding to the top

Branding on smartphones are an inescapable fact of life. OEMs of course put their unmistakble, sometimes obnoxious, stamps on their products and carriers are sometimes only too happy to outdo those even. Sometimes, however, those marks are better placed elsewhere where they can be both visible yet unobtrusive. Like how HTC might finally be relocating its name from the chin of its smartphone to the top. At least according to this latest photo set leak for the One X9.

Leaked HTC Andriod Marshmallow roadmap: 6.0.1 under evaluation, One M7 dead

Smartphone manufacturers seem to be want to end the year right by their users. Or at least plan the next year right, based on some leaked information about Android 6.0 Marshamallow updates. Lenovo has more or less revealed their hand in China, both for local and international models. Now it's HTC's handsets' turn to get some attention. The OEM has been rather silent about its update plans, which is quite uncharacteristic given its recent history. But thanks to leak source LlabTooFeR, we're getting a glimpse of when HTC plans to update its smartphones to either 6.0 or 6.0.1. Or both. Happy to say that in this color coded chart, things are mostly looking good.

HTC One M10 details and release dates begin to flow

HTC One M10 details and release dates begin to flow

This morning a key detail in the 2016 release of HTC's next flagship was revealed. The code-name for the product was tipped: HTC Perfume. We're to understand that it'll smell like success. Not literally, of course - it'll probably smell like aluminum. What's possible with this device is a new look at the HTC flagship line, released with another predictable name (HTC One M10) but a whole new body. And Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, of course, and a whole new updated version of HTC Sense.

HTC Perfume smells like next flagship device says source

Back in August of this year, a rumor was making the rounds that HTC was working on a new high-end smartphone for the top of its range called the HTC O2. That device was tipped to use a Snapdragon 820 SoC and to have a launch date set for Q1 2016. A new rumor is now making the rounds that claims that the HTC O2 is no more and that a new flagship device is in the works called the HTC Perfume.

HTC Vive release date set, Valve VR DK2 incoming

HTC has announced the release date of their Valve collaborative project, the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. This headset uses a couple of hand controllers and a room-wide playing area to differentiate itself from the competition, and exists as a team effort between HTC (for manufacturing) and Valve (for software). We had our first look at the HTC Vive and Steam VR back in March of this year - now just a little over a year later, the device will be headed to stores for the masses.
