New Nokia X coming next week

New Nokia X coming next week

It doesn't seem like HMD Global is bothering keeping this one a secret. Or rather, it's actually surprising that it was able to keep this new phone under wraps this long. Seen on a theater display in China, an ad for what is clearly being called the Nokia X appeared out of nowhere and has caught many by surprise. We won't to wait long to find the answers, though, as the device will supposed;y be unveiled in less than two weeks.

Galaxy S9 Alternatives: upcoming flagships

Galaxy S9 Alternatives: upcoming flagships

The reviews have finally come out and, as you might have expected (or not), the Galaxy S9 has pretty much set the pace of smartphones, especially Android ones, for the rest of the year. But, of course, that doesn’t mean it will be the premium Android phone of 2018. We’ve only just begun and there are lots more coming in the months to come. So before you settle your mind or wallet on the Galaxy S9 or S9+, take a quick peek at what is yet to come in the next month or two.

Nokia 8 Pro, Nokia 9 still coming as true 2018 flagships

Nokia 8 Pro, Nokia 9 still coming as true 2018 flagships

Last week at MWC, HMD Global made a slightly different pitch when it unveiled its new Nokia phones, focusing more on their Android One commitment rather than on the devices’ hardware. And that might probably be for the best considering the top of the line model, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, fails the 2018 flagship criteria in just one detail. Nokia fans need not fret, however, as a Nokia 8 Pro is reportedly still on the table. And to mix it up even me, so is a Nokia 9.

Nokia 8 Pro with rotating penta-lens Carl Zeiss camera coming

Hungry for more and actually high-end Nokia phones? MWC 2018 next week just might satisfy your craving but in a somewhat odd way. No, it won’t be the Nokia 9, much less the Nokia 10. And it won’t be a Nokia 8 (2018) either. Instead, it will supposedly be a Nokia 8 Pro with the latest mobile processor, an 18:9 screen, and one special trick that may tickle the fancy of serious mobile photographers: five lenses that can rotate to change the camera’s focal length.

Nokia just out-sold HTC, Sony, OnePlus, and Google

Nokia just out-sold HTC, Sony, OnePlus, and Google

In the fourth quarter of the year 2017, more Nokia phones were sold than several of the most well-known brands in the USA. In the fourth quarter of the year 2017, more Nokia-branded smartphones were sold than any of the following brands: HTC, Sony, ASUS, Coolpad, Meizu, Gionee, OnePlus, Lenovo, Alcatel, and Google. This sort of threw us for a loop when we first heard it, especially since several of these brands have been at the forefront of the smartphone market here in the USA for the past half-decade or more.

Nokia 7 Plus details leaked in photos

Nokia 7 Plus details leaked in photos

HMD Global’s and Nokia’s Android smartphone strategy is, to be frank, all over the place. There doesn’t seem to be a discernible rhyme and reason to its models just yet. It just launched the Nokia 6 2018 edition but there isn’t going to be a 2018 edition for the Nokia 7, at least not yet. Instead, there will be a Nokia 7 Plus, and it’s looking to be quite a curious mid-range phone, at least based on these leaked marketing materials.

Nokia 5, Nokia 6 Android Oreo update now available

Nokia 5, Nokia 6 Android Oreo update now available

Smaller and newer smartphone makers are able to boast about how agile and faster they are when it comes to pushing out updates precisely because they are that: smaller and newer. How long that favorable situation will last is anyone’s guess. For now, however, HMD Global, Nokia, and owners of some of their phones can revel in how true that is. HMD Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas, possibly the public face of the new Nokia phones, has just announced that both the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 6 have finally joined the Android Oreo family.

Nokia 7 Plus seen with upgraded processor

Nokia 7 Plus seen with upgraded processor

2018 has already begun but it seems that HMD Global isn't yet read to show all its Nokia cards yet. Well, aside from the Nokia 6 (2018), which is practically an upgraded Nokia 6, if that weren't obvious from the name. But unlike that, the Nokia 7's "upgrade" won't be like that. Which is probably why HMD isn't appending a "2018" to it. Instead, the Nokia 7 Plus sighted on Geekbench seems to simply have a slightly higher processor than the original.

Nokia flagship 2018 smartphone tipped to feature 5 camera setup

The new HMD Global-owned Nokia has been hard at work over the last year to become a producer of affordable quality Android handsets. The latest Nokia 6 has already been announced, and the upcoming Nokia 8 and Nokia 9 are expected to be high-end devices. However, there's a new rumor developing that the Finnish company has a new flagship in the works for reveal sometime later this year, one that will feature a whopping five lens camera setup.

Nokia 8 DxOMark score shows it has some catching up to do

Nokia 8 DxOMark score shows it has some catching up to do

Once upon a time, Nokia had a reputation for good phone cameras, especially with its partnership with lens maker Zeiss. Of course, back then, it didn’t have much competition anyway. As it got left behind in the smartphone race, it also lost its prominence in mobile photography. And just as the Nokia 8 is its current champion in the smartphone market, so it also represents its best foot in taking pictures and recording videos. And, unfortunately, HMD Global still has a lot of work to do.

Nokia 6 (2018) fixes users’ biggest complaints

Nokia 6 (2018) fixes users’ biggest complaints

The new year has just rolled out and HMD Global is starting it not with a bang but with a tiny pop. The high-end Nokia 9 is still nowhere in sight, but that doesn’t mean its first 2018 smartphone is something to pan. The Nokia 6 (2018), a.k.a. Nokia 6 2nd gen, has just been revealed, somewhat. Its actual launch is still a few days away, but the company is revealing enough to make buyers of the first gen Nokia 6 seethe in jealousy.

Nokia 1 might be an Android Go phone

Nokia 1 might be an Android Go phone

Ever wondered what happened to the Nokia 1? There's a Nokia 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and, soon, 9, but no 1 (yes, they intentionally skipped 4). It turns out, there will still be a Nokia 1 but, apparently, HMD Global was reserving it for a very special purpose. Word from old-time Nokia leakster Eldar Murtazin claims that the Nokia 1 will be a super low-end, budget smartphone that will be part of the new Android Go program. And no, not the Android One program, which would have probably been a better marketing strategy.
