Nokia phones drop Evenwell app-killing battery management service

Nokia phones drop Evenwell app-killing battery management service

Smartphones have become truly powerful machines but there's now way around the fact that they still need to manage resources far better than even laptops. These days it might be less about RAM or internal storage and more about prolonging the still short battery life. Some manufacturers, unfortunately, have resorted to using third-party utilities to kill apps, much to the dismay of users. One of the top offenders, HMD Global, is fortunately making an about face and will be freeing its Nokia phones from Evenwell's app-killing grasp.

Nokia Android 10 roadmap includes affordable 5G phone

Nokia Android 10 roadmap includes affordable 5G phone

The big news in the Android world today has been the switch of release branding from letters and desserts to plain numbers. While it might not matter much just yet to actual phones, HMD Global is, perhaps unsurprisingly, jumping on the opportunity to layout its plans for updating its phones to the new Android 10. But while it has concretely shared its roadmap to updating existing phones, it has also dropped hints about its intention to launch a 5G 5G Nokia phone at half the price of current 5G handsets.

Nokia 7.2 and its triple cameras accidentally confirmed

Nokia 7.2 and its triple cameras accidentally confirmed

HMD Global is set to unveil a handful of Nokia handsets at IFA 2019 next month but it may not have a model that's worthy of competing with the big guys like the newly announced Galaxy Note 10. That isn't HMD Global's main market anyway but it still has at least one, maybe even two, Nokia phones that could try to make a case for flagships. The Nokia 7.2 was at least rumored to have a new design and even three cameras, both of which have now been confirmed by an unexpected source.

Nokia 7.2 leak points to a big design change

Nokia 7.2 leak points to a big design change

HMD Global has, by now, made about a dozen Nokia smartphones but, save for the odd Nokia 9 PureView, not many of them can be considered eye-catching or visually unique. That may be changing next month when it unleashes yet another handful, including the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2. And if these leaked renders of cases for the Nokia 7.2 are correct, then the smartphone maker is ready to make a few changes to its mold.

Nokia 9 PureView teardown reveals phone’s excesses

Nokia 9 PureView teardown reveals phone’s excesses

HMD Global's Nokia phones are best known for their affordability and pure Android experience but seldom can they be considered exciting or exceptional in features or design. The Nokia 9 PureView is an outlier in that regard because of the five cameras on its back. It turns out it has more secrets to share and, thanks to JerryRigEverything, we're finding out what those are. Unfortunately, they're nothing to go crazy over.

Nokia 8.2 could come with a popup camera

Nokia 8.2 could come with a popup camera

Just when you thought the brief popup camera trend had silently died off, here comes major manufacturers picking it up again. Honor just launched the Honor 9X and 9X Pro, its first with a popup camera, and it seems that HMD Global will follow suit soon. If true, then the Nokia 8.2 could be the first Nokia phone to ever have that quirky design. Fortunately, that might not be its only selling factor.

Nokia 220 4G and new Nokia 105 phones promise long battery life and Snake game

They may be called smartphones but the "phone" part, especially the calling aspect, may actually be the least used function of these mobile computers. When smartphone users make calls, they usually do so via Internet services or VoIPs. Still, there are places and users in the world where phone calls and good old SMS are their bread and butter communication services. To make sure they don't feel left out, HMD Global is launching the Nokia 220 4G and the new Nokia 105 just for them.

Nokia Android feature phone leak sends the Internet into a frenzy

Nokia Android feature phone leak sends the Internet into a frenzy

For all its flexibility and ubiquity, one thing the Android platform has never been known for is being lightweight. The Android Go configuration was designed to address that but, even then, its base requirements are already on the smartphone territory. There is still some class of people who'd love to be connected to the Internet but have no need for even the most basic smartphone features. HMD Global might be coming to their rescue with an old school Nokia feature phone running Android, at least based on this new leak.

Nokia 5.2 could have 48MP camera, look like a Huawei-Moto hybrid

HMD Global has been making Nokia phones that are best known for their quick and regularly updated software as well as their affordable prices. They may not always be known, however, for their design or their cameras, the latter being one of the most popular features in smartphones these days. That may be fixed with an upcoming Nokia phone codenamed "daredevil" which will not only have a 48 megapixel camera but a memorable design that looks like the lovechild of a Huawei Mate 20 and a Moto Z phone.

Nokia 2.2 tries to sell the idea of affordable AI for everyone

Nokia 2.2 tries to sell the idea of affordable AI for everyone

A large portion of today's mobile experience is being driven by AI and machine learning, or at least that's what manufacturers and platform-makers advertise. But while those AI-driven features do sound delectable, unless you're using a moderately powerful and moderately expensive phone, you'd be out of luck. Not quite, argues HMD Global as it launches its latest Nokia-branded phone. Because with the Nokia 2.2, it promises to deliver the latest Android and AI trends in an affordable package. That is if you keep your expectations low.
