Fire TV gets live TV features with guide for Amazon Channels content

Amazon has pushed out an update for Fire TV that brings new Live TV features, including a channel guide. Note that this isn't the same as the live TV features found on the Fire Smart TVs, which revolve around over-the-air TV delivered by an antenna. Rather, these new features related to livestreaming content aggregated from Amazon Channels subscriptions.

YouTube just blocked FireTV in Google Amazon row (for realsies this time)

Starting today, Amazon Fire TV officially joins the retail war between Google and Amazon. Amazon refuses to allow several Google products to be sold on their site, including Google Chromecast, Google Home, and some of the newest Nest products. Google released a statement on the subject, and Amazon replied - have a peek!

YouTube for Fire TV goes dark early as Amazon pushes browser workaround

By now, the feud between Google and Amazon should be fairly clear. The disagreement between the two has been simmering for a couple of years at this point, but things have started heating up in the last few months. The culmination of all of this is that YouTube will be leaving Amazon's Fire TV devices on January 1, after Google previously disabled YouTube on the Echo Show.

Firefox is now on Amazon Fire TV, can play YouTube

The back and forth between Google and Amazon has become both entertaining and also frustrating for consumers. It is the common folk who get caught in between the clash of the titans and, at least for Amazon Echo Show and Fire TV users, that meant being deprived of the time-wasting joys of YouTube. While peace negotiations are supposedly on the way, hope comes from a new, outside source. Mozilla has just announced that the Firefox web browser is now available on Amazon’s Fire TV platform and, yes, it can play web videos, including YouTube.

Echo Show loses YouTube support, Fire TV will soon follow [Update: Amazon responds]

Google and Amazon are in the middle of a squabble of some sort and its customers are suffering as a result. The matter became public back in September when Google pulled YouTube support for Amazon's Echo Show without warning, leaving those device owners without access to the popular video platform. Amazon eventually got YouTube back for the customers, but Google has doubled down and will be stripping it away entirely.

Amazon Fire TV Silk browser support officially arrives

Amazon Fire TV Silk browser support officially arrives

If you have any of Amazon's Fire TV devices, including the stick and smart TVs, you now have a way to browse the Internet with them: Amazon's own Silk browser. This is the same browser that Amazon includes on its Kindle Fire devices. We've known for a while that the Silk browser would likely appear on the Fire TV devices soon enough -- a beta leaked earlier this year, for example, followed by a very temporary arrival in the Amazon Appstore.

Amazon Fire TV (2017) Review: 4K HDR, Alexa, and a problem

Amazon Fire TV (2017) Review: 4K HDR, Alexa, and a problem

Welcome to the age of 4K HDR and a brand new Amazon Fire TV (2017), complete with Alexa to hold your hand as you wade into High Dynamic Range content. Aggressively priced at $69.99, and thoroughly undercutting the latest Apple TV in the process, Amazon's newest media streamer boasts not only 4K HDR 60 fps, but all the skills and talents its virtual assistant can offer. As I found, however, the road to multimedia nirvana is seldom smooth.

Nougat-based Amazon Fire OS 6 is out but no one can get it

Nougat-based Amazon Fire OS 6 is out but no one can get it

The relationship between Google and Amazon has just taken a sour turn, but they have never really been best buds from the beginning. While Amazon's Fire tablets and TV devices do run Android, they use a heavily customized, not Google-certified, version that doesn't keep up with the latest Android updates. At least until now. Despite making a big splash about new hardware products, Amazon was nearly totally silent about the release of Fire OS 6. And there reason might be to prevent user backlash about this latest update not being available to any existing Fire device in the market.

Westinghouse 4K Amazon Fire TV Review: Great for anyone, especially cord-cutters

Roku got a jump on the budget smart TV market, but Amazon's own platform is ready to battle for top spot. The company first introduced its media box product in the form of the Fire TV and then the Fire Stick, and now that same system has been built into select televisions to bring the same features (and more!) without the actual dongle or box. Chief among these televisions is Westinghouse's new 4K lineup.

Amazon Fire TV software update rolls out ahead of device refresh

Amazon Fire TV software update rolls out ahead of device refresh

Amazon may have stopped selling its Fire TV set-top box, but it hasn’t stopped supporting it. At least not yet. In fact, merely hours after said halt of sales, Amazon is reported to be rolling out an update to its range of Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Stick, with an important new feature: keyboard voice input. This could very well be paving the road for the new 4K devices that will come with Alexa integration out of the box.

New Amazon Fire TV leaks with a huge Alexa upgrade

New Amazon Fire TV leaks with a huge Alexa upgrade

It appears that Amazon has two new Fire TV devices on deck for 2017. While one of these is a mid-range box, the other seems poised to become Amazon's flagship Fire TV model. Unsurprisingly, this new top-of-the-line Fire TV will come equipped with Alexa - a move most of us have been expecting for quite some time.
