Final Fantasy XIV accused of ripping off band’s song

Final Fantasy XIV has stirred up a bit of a controversy, with some gamers claiming the song played during a boss battle is a ripoff of the Powerman 5000 song “When Worlds Collide.” The game's producer says the song is an original "industrial rock" track developed specifically for the game, but any casual listen reveals it has a striking similarity to Powerman 5000's own track.

Square Enix teases Final Fantasy IX for mobile

Square Enix teases Final Fantasy IX for mobile

At the start of the year, Square Enix made a rather surprising reveal. That Final Fantasy IX would be coming to PCs is perhaps expected. That it would also be coming to mobile, both iOS and especially Android, was, perhaps the publisher's late Christmas gift (or early, depending on when it actually arrives) to fans. While still thin on launch details, Square Enix is now giving fans yet another appetizer, showing FF IX "in action" action on a mobile device, in a preview delivered over an almost two-hour long news style presentation.

Of course, it might be too early to celebrate, but at least it gives a sliver of hope to fans on all those gaming devices.

Final Fantasy XIII character is Louis Vuitton’s newest model

As absurd as it seems, yes, you read that headline right. Louis Vuitton, the world-famous luxury fashion brand, has tapped Lightning, the heroine of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII series, as their latest model in a new advertising campaign. To be clear, this is not a real human model that was made up with pink hair to resemble the video game character, but the actual digital creation rendered with fashion items such as expensive handbags.

Final Fantasy VII will always have a special place in my gaming heart. I had played many games before it came out, but this was the first one that told me a complex story. It was the first game that made me really feel connected to the characters, and feel emotional about what happened to them. Final Fantasy VII for iOS Review

Final Fantasy VII for iOS Review

What do you remember about 1997? I remember a time before the iPhone or iPad, a period when the Internet boom was in full swing, and computer shows were a key part of my life. I also remember a video game that changed my opinion of role-playing games forever: Final Fantasy VII. Back then, the game was a monster hit and today, it lives on in my heart (and the hearts of millions around the globe) as one of the best RPGs to ever grace the PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII is without exaggeration, a masterpiece.

Final Fantasy VII released to iOS today with one big oddity

Today Final Fantasy VII hits the mobile platform with Square Enix' release on both iPhone and iPad. This game will be joined - sooner or later - by a new mobile app "Final Fantasy Portal". While a mash-up of the Valve-made classic first-person title and the classic RPG might seem like a dream made in fairyland, this app is instead a portal for all things Final Fantasy - card games and all. While this version of Final Fantasy VII (or Final Fantasy 7, if you prefer), is similar to the original, it includes just a few odd changes that make it a whole different experience.

Why not distract yourself with this Re-imagined version that transforms the 3D JRPG into a 2D side scrolling fighting game like Contra of old.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD lands on PCs August 18

As mentioned last month, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, a title in the almost never ending franchise that started its life on the PSP, is coming to the PC. Back then, the announcement was missing a few crucial details. Little did we know that it was because we wouldn't really have to wait that long. Square Enix has just announced that the game arrives 18th of August. But even before that date, you can already pre-order your copy on Steam and get a few goodies, most of which, amusingly, isn't related to the game at all.

FF XIV for Macs pulled from sales, lengthy apology issued

Square Enix may have just launched its biggest update to Final Fantasy XIV, but what could have been an almost perfect release has been marred by performance issues on a single platform: Macs. Now while this may sound almost like the situation with Warner Bros. and Batman: Arkham Knight for PCs, Square Enix is doing something differently and, to its credit, perhaps more satisfying. Producer Naoki Yoshida has provided a rather detailed account of the blunder that happened and, unusual in this business, has taken sole responsibility for the fiasco.
