The Arcade Mode Bethesda promised for DOOM has arrived, and you can download it now if you haven't already. There's a lot to like about this DLC, and it helps flesh what was otherwise a good but not perfect rendition of the classic title. For those unaware, this is Free Update 4 — it also brings a pair of new multiplayer modes, “Possession” and “Bloodrush.” The previous update (#3) brought private matches and deathmatches.

DOOM will be receiving Update 3 this month, and with it will come three things: Deathmatch and Private Matches, as well as a sneak peak of the upcoming Arcade Mode, which is itself a future addition for the campaign mode. Ahead of the update’s release, Bethesda will be giving gamers a look at the modes on September 13 at 11AM PT via livestreamed gameplay. The livestream will include gameplay from Arcade Mode, though it won’t be arriving with Update 3.

Earlier this week, developer Id Software announced a pair of updates for the recently released Doom. The first, which is available now, is a free download that introduces two new multiplayer modes and several new customizations for the SnapMap mode, where players can create their own maps and game types. The second update, "Unto the Evil," however, is the first of three planned premium DLCs, which will cost money but include new multiplayer maps, weapons, and more.

Bethesda Softworks will release a big free update for DOOM (2016) tomorrow, the second of its kind for the title. This particular update adds a pair of new multiplayer game modes, addressing the mostly justified criticism about the game’s lackluster multiplayer experience. The new game modes are comprised of capture-the-flag with a single flag and moving bases and a capture-and-hold mode where gamers take control of specific zones.

Doom, the very first one, was widely regarded to have pushed the boundaries of PC gaming and graphics of that era, with its 3D graphics, 3D maps, networked multiplayer, and mature rating. Ever since then, id Software has been carrying on that tradition, like with RAGE's use of megatextures. Now under the ownership of Bethesda Softworks, that tradition continues with the announcement that the reincarnation of DOOM is now the first triple-A game to support the brand new Vulkan API, promising to deliver even better framerates, especially on slightly weaker hardware.

If you haven't picked up the new Doom game, I highly recommend it. While the multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired, the single-player campaign is well worth it. If you can't afford it, or your machine can't handle it, that's okay. You can soon get some of the new Doom flavor in the original games.

The announcement came Friday evening, but this was only one part of a larger ongoing event over the weekend. At one point on Saturday, members of id software came out to showcase DOOM running on one of the newly-announced cards. And now we have footage of the demo that was shown.
