Lexus has revealed its new vision of a luxury crossover, the Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept, and the idea is all about flexibility. Revealed today at the Detroit Auto Show 2018, the LF-1 Limitless is longer and wider than the current Lexus RX SUV, and even more aggressively proportioned, with a long hood and steeply raked rear glass.

Kia clearly heard that SUVs and crossovers are dominating the LA Auto Show 2017, and brought along two new models - the 2018 Niro Plug-In Hybrid, and the 2019 Kia Sorento. The 2018 Niro PHEV is Kia's third plug-in model, promising 26 miles of emission-free electric range but with the added reassurance of a gas engine for longer trips and easier refueling. In fact, Kia claims that with gas and electric motors working together, the crossover can go around 560 miles before you'll need to stop.

Ferrari always swore that it would never build an SUV, but with the category being the most popular and other dedicated sports car makers entering the segment, the Prancing Horse is having second thoughts. Word is that the company is working on a crossover codenamed F16X that would be built alongside the GTC4Lusso. Currently, that is the most family oriented of Ferraris and still lacks four doors.

Tesla has hit reset on the Model Y, with Elon Musk crediting the automaker's executive team for reeling him in "from the cliffs of insanity" over the car. The Model Y is expected to be Tesla's first compact SUV, or crossover, smaller than the current Model X. It's a sensible model to push, too, given the US market in particular is seeing significant growth in the crossover and SUV categories while sedans stagnate.

You'd be forgiven for thinking the 2018 Toyota C-HR was the Japanese automaker's play for car-eschewing Millennials, but really the crossover curiosity is the first major push in its safety tech offensive. Originally revealed as a Scion concept back in late 2015, and then promptly rescued by the mother-brand after the Scion nameplate ended up in the dumpster, the C-HR certainly fits a gap in Toyota's line-up. After all, while other automakers have plenty of compact crossover options, Toyota's ever-enlarging RAV4 may have grown itself out of the segment.
