After suffering a leak earlier today, Activision has confirmed Warzone, a new Call of Duty battle royale game. While previous versions of Call of Duty's battle royale have been tied to mainline games, Activision is changing things up for Warzone, launching it as a free-to-play title that anyone can play. In other words, the game may be based on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but you won't need a copy of Modern Warfare to play it.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Tomogunchi is a virtual pet on your virtual wrist

Killing enemies, in-game only, of course, can become pretty boring once you've mastered every skill and have ascended to attain godlike invincibility. If only you could while away your time while adding kills to your stats. That's exactly what the company Rothwynn may have been thinking, inspiring them to produce the Tomogunchi, giving you a pet with a rather sadistic streak, enjoying from and growing through your kills and wins.

Call of Duty gets into the holiday spirit with Snowfights, winter themes

This time of year is often a period of merrymaking, gift-giving, and ceasefires. That almost makes games that shoot people down feel almost antithetical and out of place. Unsurprisingly, Activision has found a way to make its war-themed Call of Duty franchise a little less bloody and a bit more jolly, including a temporary new mode that throws away the weapons and lets you win battles using nothing but snowballs.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: No more loot boxes

Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: No more loot boxes

Activision just changed the game - or at least attempted to appear to be thinking about changing the game as such. They've suggested in an article today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not use loot boxes. "We are introducing a new Battle Pass system, not a loot box system," said an Activision representative. They've been a bit tricky about the way they've worded all of this - but there is some hope for a future without the addictive nonsense universe that lives in loot boxes in video games today.

With a new Call of Duty game on the horizon, prospective buyers are wondering how Activision plans to monetize the game post-launch. In the past, Activision has opted to add loot boxes to its games a few months after they release, and fans think the same thing may happen to Modern Warfare after references in the beta suggested as much. To hear Infinity Ward explain it, though, loot boxes aren't on the post-launch docket.
