My Top 5 Track and Performance Driving Events of 2016

My Top 5 Track and Performance Driving Events of 2016

What an epic year. Right around this time last year, I made one New Year’s resolution for 2016: drive as many tracks around the world as humanly possible. To my amazement, I did just that. While I did make that my singular resolution for the new year, I didn’t really care which cars I drove as long as I was on a track somewhere. That opened up some fairly unusual opportunities both for me and for SlashGear: read on for five of the most memorable.

2018 Audi Q5 First Drive: Evolution in action

2018 Audi Q5 First Drive: Evolution in action

The Q5 is hands-down Audi’s numero uno: its top-seller and, in my humble opinion, one of the best premium crossovers on the market today. First introduced back in 2008, the Q5 sold over 1.5-million in its first generation worldwide. Undeniably a home-run hit, then, and with good reason, an Audi knows just the buyer it's selling to and what they want. Why mess with a winning formula?

Tesla tops 2016 owner satisfaction survey as VW plummets

Tesla has taken the top spot in a customer satisfaction survey, with more owners of the electric car saying they'd buy another than any other automaker brand. The results of Consumer Reports' 2016 Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey see Tesla once again in pole position, with Porsche and Audi keeping hold of their second and third place spots. However, there's some sizable movement elsewhere in the rankings, particularly after this year's "dieselgate".

Audi Q8 concept previews super-luxe SUV for NAIAS 2017

Audi has previewed the Q8, a new performance SUV that could soon compete with luxury behemoths like the Bentley Bentayga and upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Set to make its official debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) 2017 taking place in Detroit, MI. in January, the Audi Q8 would sit at the top of the German automaker's Q-badged sports utility vehicle line-up. There, Audi says, there's room for a whole new segment.

From 1,100 connected traffic lights, smart cities will grow

From 1,100 connected traffic lights, smart cities will grow

There are eighty-six seconds before the traffic lights are due to turn from red to green, plenty of time to pull my phone out of my pocket and check Twitter. Fifty-four seconds, and I channel surf on the radio, ignoring the flashing lights and eager billboards of the Las Vegas strip around me. Fifteen seconds, just enough time for a quick gulp of water, and then my hands are ready on the wheel, foot poised on the gas, ready to pull away.

Audi just turned on its stress-busting connected traffic light system

Audi has switched on its connected traffic lights system, with drivers of certain model year 2017 cars getting sneak-previews of upcoming red lights in Las Vegas. Dubbed Traffic Light Information, the new system is part of Audi's growing connect PRIME portfolio of connected car services, and relies on tapping into smart city infrastructure expected to spread across the US. The upshot for drivers is greater forewarning about what the lights ahead of them are going to do.

2018 Audi TT RS First Drive

2018 Audi TT RS First Drive

Get ready for trouble: the 2018 Audi TT RS is most definitely going to stir up some problems among the new Porsche Cayman S, Mustang GT350, Corvette Stingray, and BMW M2. Having driven all five of these road-legal racers, I have no doubts that the TT RS will hold against its best German and American rivals. It’s a fast car that happens to look great, excelling on the track while still delivering all the creature comforts you'd want in a daily driver.

Has Tesla’s Supercharger Network finally met its match?

Has Tesla’s Supercharger Network finally met its match?

Tesla's Supercharger network is arguably the jewel in the EV company's crown: without it, after all, cars like the Model S would be far less appealing for everyday transportation. Now, though, a consortium of traditional automakers is partnering up to eclipse Superchargers with a more widespread connector than Tesla's proprietary plug. Including big names like Volkswagen Group, BMW, and Daimler, the joint venture aims to make all-electric long-distance travel a reality, in Europe at least.

This new emissions cheating issue is in Audi cars with automatic transmissions and VW apparently admitted the issue.
