Though yearly franchises may not be as popular as they once were in the video game industry, there are still a few big names that are going strong. Assassin's Creed has historically been one of these franchises, with a mainline game releasing nearly every year since the the first title debuted in 2007. As it turns out, that's going to change in 2019.

As a result, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is getting something of a rushed reveal, with the promise that we'll learn more at E3.

Final Fantasy 15 is getting free Assassin’s Creed Origins DLC (yes, really)

Ubisoft made a rather surprisingly announcement today, revealing a new team up with Square Enix to bring Assassin's Creed Origins-themed DLC to Final Fantasy 15. That's strange enough on its own, but we also learned from today's announcement that Square Enix and Ubisoft have been teasing this new DLC for months already. Assassin’s Creed movie ticket preorder includes a crossbow for $1200

You wouldn't bat an eye at the announcement of a pre-order campaign for a big upcoming video game — one where an increased price and down payment includes anything from a figurine to in-game items like weapons or costumes — so developer Ubisoft is looking to apply the same strategy to the theatrical movie release of Assassin's Creed. For a whopping $1,200 you can pre-order your ticket to the movie, which isn't expected until December, and score a replica crossbow.

Uncharted 4 trailer caught using Assassin’s Creed artwork, dev apologizes

Yesterday saw Sony and game developer Naughty Dog drop an impressive new story trailer for the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. However, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed a piece of in-game artwork in the video that didn't belong. As in, it was artwork from a completely different game, by a different company, to be specific. A scene in the trailer showed a framed painting on the wall, which turned out to be a piece of concept art from Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.

No new Assassin’s Creed in 2016, Destiny 2 coming 2017

Game franchises can sometimes live on and on for years. Some even for decades. But being old and venerable doesn't always mean you always get it right. Sometimes, you can lose your way and need to find your way back. That might be the kind of soul-searching that Ubisoft will be undertaking, or should undertake, this year when it decided not to launch a new Assassin's Creed title this year. In the meantime, Bungie will be forging ahead with Destiny 2, though it seems that it is the game's destiny not to launch this year either.
