T-Mobile USA releasing HTC One M8 with Windows this fall

HTC's One M8 with Windows, the Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8, is headed to T-Mobile USA this fall the carrier has confirmed. Announced earlier this month as a Verizon exclusive at launch, the smartphone has the same 5-inch Full HD display as its Android counterpart, as well as the Duo Camera system with UltraPixel technology.

That dual camera setup – which allows the One M8 to capture both image and depth information in a single shot – required some extra homework for HTC's engineers, given Windows Phone doesn't natively support such technology.

As a result, there's a version of the HTC camera app for Windows Phone, and additions to the gallery which allow selective defocusing of different parts of the frame, applying textures, and adjusting the picture in a pseudo-3D manner. Not all of the effects from the Android device have been carried across, however, and you don't currently get the Zoe highlight videos or social sharing.

That, HTC told us at the One M8 with Windows launch, was because the company is focusing on building the Zoe brand as an Android success first, such as with the cross-platform Zoe app it recently pushed into the Google Play store.

T-Mobile USA hasn't confirmed pricing or specific release dates for the One M8 with Windows at this stage.
