Surface Pro 4, Surface Book get extended holiday price cut

Christmas may be over (at least for those who celebrated it), but the sales and promos live on. Case in point, Microsoft has just extended its holiday season price cut for its two most powerful portable "tablet that can replace your laptop", saving buyers as much as $400, depending on the model. That said, some models are already marked as out of stock, with no replenishments in sight. This gives the promo a bit of a "clearance sale" feel, perhaps hinting that a new gen model is just around the corner.

Microsoft is mighty proud of its latest generation of Surface tablets, both the Pro 4 and the Book. Some might even say too proud. Presented with encouraging sales numbers, Microsoft boasted that its success was partly due to the growing dissatisfaction among MacBook users.

But one thing the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book were never good at was the price, which was pretty premium even for the specs. Many interested buyers simply wait for seasonal discounts before sinking their teeth into one. This is one of those times and could be the very last, and lowest, price cut the two get before being replaced.

The Surface Pro 4 gets up to $300 in savings depending on the model you're aiming for. The Intel Core i5 with 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, for example, goes down from $999 to $699. The price cut on the Surface Book is a bit more varied, ranging from $200 up to $400 in discount. Sadly, it seems that some models, particularly the higher end Core i7 configurations, are now out of stock.

Of course, the timing of the sale isn't unusual, but the fact that Microsoft extended it beyond the 24th December deadline is both good news and bad news. Good, you still have the chance to grab one. Bad, Microsoft might already be preparing for a Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 any time soon.
