Surface 2 LTE utilizes NVIDIA i500 modem

Yesterday a new version of Microsoft's slate was announced, the Surface 2 LTE. Adding to the details that were provided is an announcement today from NVIDIA that its i500 LTE modem will be utilized in the LTE version of the Microsoft slate, giving the tablet both a Tegra 4 processor and the fifth-gen version of the maker's i500 modem.

With LTE functionality comes the ability to use Microsoft's Surface tablet online while away from a wireless network, a feature that has henceforth been both lacking and requested. With the LTE version of the slate comes the ability to use AT&T's 4G LTE network, accomplished by way of NVIDIA's i500 modem.

The Surface 2 LTE is available now, and with it comes a $679 USD price tag for the 64GB version. That aside, the slate remains the same as the WiFi-only version, which we reviewed not too long ago.

The Surface 2 LTE is the latest in multiple devices that harbor the same technology, among them being the Tegra NOTE 7 LTE we discussed back in February and the Wiko WAX.
