Persona 5's Joker is Smash Bros Ultimate's newest DLC character

Super Smash Bros Ultimate isn't even a day old yet and we already have details on its first DLC character. Nintendo revealed at the annual Game Awards that Joker from Persona 5 will star in the first Challenger Pack for Ultimate, which means that we'll be getting a Persona-themed stage and some music from the game along with him. This reveal was a surprise in pretty much every sense of the word, since Persona 5 is an PlayStation 4 exclusive.

In fact, all of the mainline Persona games aside from the very first one have been exclusive to PlayStation platforms, so to say that the announcement that Joker is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate caught us off guard is understating it a bit.

For the moment, we don't really have any details on Joker's moveset – the trailer that Nintendo premiered is simply a cinematic one that doesn't show off Joker in-game. For that matter, Joker's accompanying stage and music weren't revealed either, so those are details that will be coming around the bend at a later date.

Shortly before Super Smash Bros Ultimate launched, series director Masahiro Sakurai detailed his team's plans for DLC. There will be five of these Challenger Packs in all, each with a price tag of $5.99. All five of them are available in a bundle for $24.99, which is launching alongside the game.

We don't have a solid release date for this Challenger Pack yet, but we can probably expect Joker to join the roster at some point in early 2019. Before that, we'll presumably see Piranha Plant – which is being offered to early Ultimate buyers for free – added to the game, so technically, Joker will be the second DLC character for Smash Bros. We'll let you know when additional details surface, so stay tuned for more.
