Stranger Things season 3 may not arrive until 2019

Netflix recently confirmed that it has ordered a third season of its hit original series Stranger Things. However, the announcement was very slim, merely confirming that season 3 will happen without any additional details to go alongside it. The biggest missing detail was the season's anticipated launch date, and while it was assumed Netflix hadn't yet penciled one in, many fans expected it would be around autumn of next year.

Unfortunately, we may not get the third season until 2019, potentially meaning there will be more than a year's wait before we get the next batch of episodes. Netflix hasn't confirmed a 2019 launch at this point, though. The info came from show star David Harbour who gave the tidbit of info to Variety.

Why the delay? Harbour indicates that a big chunk of time is needed to get the scripts written and other work placed up on the Duffer brothers' shoulders. Stranger Things presents a big story and no doubt time is needed to get everything in place, not the least of which is actually recording the episodes as well as post-production work.

In the relevant part of the interview, Harbour said:

I mean, one of the things that's annoying for fans is that it takes us a long time to do them. Like, you probably won't get [Season 3] until sometime in 2019. But also part of the thing is, like any good thing, they need time. And those guys work so hard. I mean, they just sit in their apartment and write for 12, 14 hours a day.

The first season of Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in summer 2016, quickly winning a huge fan base and spurring the launch of a second season this past Halloween. The second season has raised minor concerns from some fans that the show's popularity may already be having a negative effect on the series, but that remains to be seen. In light of those concerns, taking ample time to create season 3 is a welcomed decision if it means getting the quality fans are expecting.
