Why The Electric Vehicle's Fast Rise Has Become A Growing Issue
By CHRIS LITTLECHILD
While many governments worldwide are committed to bringing electric vehicles, or EVs, to the auto industry's forefront, significant problems have arisen.
The Department of Energy's Alternative Fueling Station Locator shows nearly 55,000 electric charging stations in the U.S.
However, the capacity for DC Fast Charging is only widely available at some of them, making longer journeys challenging.
The Sierra Club's "Rev Up Electric Vehicles: A Nationwide Study of the Electric Vehicle Shopping Experience" report revealed some dealerships don't have access to the stations.
This setback limits the dealerships and their customer’s access to EVs. Many dealers have become wary of the cars since charging stations are unavailable.
The report stated that around two-thirds of the nation's dealers didn't have stock of electric vehicles, as they would need the necessary equipment to accommodate EVs.
A visitor of Virginia's Ourisman Ford lamented in the report, "Dealer was happy to help me order an EV, but had no EV in stock that I could look at or test drive."
Another issue facing EVs is their price tag. Due to their unconventional components, such as the battery, electric vehicles are simply too expensive for most consumers.
Although electric vehicles could play a significant part in combating climate change, the new technology's price and inaccessibility are too much for some.
