Why Ford’s Coyote is One Of The Best V8 Engines Of All Time
By CHRIS LITTLECHILD
Ford’s iconic Coyote V8 engine is unique and impressive, blending environmentally friendly performance with a relatively modest size capable of outputting considerable power.
Developed from the 1991 Lincoln Town Car’s V8 engine, the Coyote V8 five-liter engine was first fitted in the Ford Mustang GT for racing.
The Coyote V8’s first incarnation offers a potent 412 horsepower and 4,250 rpm of torque but remains a convenient and compact component, weighing just 430 pounds.
The engine features some of Ford’s sophisticated Ford features, such as Twin independent Variable Cam Timing and EcoBoost engine injectors.
The engine would see improvements over the years, like the 2018 Mustang’s third-generation Coyote, which was bolstered to 460 horsepower.
The Coyote V8 also proved versatile, as different versions powered both a sports car and a pickup, helping cement its place in the history of Ford engines.
