Used Cars You Should Steer Clear of At All Costs

2002 Ford Explorer
Transmission problems, costing as much as $3,000, and wheel bearing failures, costing from $500-$1,000 depending on the number of bearings needing replacement, plagued 2002-2005 Explorers. These model years also experienced the annoyance of a cracked rear panel.
2003 Honda Accord
Transmission problems plagued the 2001 to 2003 year models, resulting in costly repairs. Owners reported the transmission slipping, failing to engage a gear, unintended downshifting, and leaking fluids. The transmission required replacement with an average repair cost of more than $2,000.
2019 Toyota Rav4
Power train problems, including stalled engines, grinding gears, a failing fuel pump, loss of braking assist, issues with the front suspension, and a troublesome transmission, make the 2019 RAV4 a poor choice for a used vehicle. Problems were so serious Toyota recalled it.
2014 Ford Fiesta
The 2014 Ford Fiesta experienced several reliability issues, including body integrity, transmission, and infotainment systems. The most common and troublesome issues were related to air conditioning failures, with repair costs easily topping $1,000.
2011 Mini Cooper
Water pump and turbocharger issues plagued the quintessential British compact car, but transmission failures created the most serious problems. In 2014, Consumer Reports called Mini the least reliable car brand on the U.S. market, making it a poor choice for a used car purchase.
