These Are The 12 Fastest Fighter Jets In The World, Ranked
By JOE HINDY
MiG-25 Foxbat
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 Foxbat travels at a top speed of Mach 2.8, or roughly 2,150 mph at high altitudes, making it the second fastest jet on Earth.
The jet had advantages over others and set many speed and altitude records in its early days, but it was difficult to maneuver and required tons of maintenance to remain effective.
XB-70 Valkyrie
A unique bomber-style fighter jet, the North American XB-70 Valkyrie has a top speed of around 2,050 mph, which is about Mach 3, depending on the altitude.
This experimental fighter never officially went into production, but after many tests and redesigns, the XB-70 would become the foundation of the legendary SR-71.
MiG-31 Foxhound
The replacement of the MiG-25 Foxbat, the Mikoyan MiG-31 Foxhound, has a top speed of roughly 1,900 mph, though it can do faster bursts for short periods.
The MiG-31 had many improvements over its predecessors in areas like agility and flying range. Today, the jet is still in use and has several improved variations.
Ye-152
The Ye-152 is the fastest jet in the Ye-150 family, with a top speed of roughly 1,880 mph at altitudes of 50,525 feet, all thanks to its single Tumansky R-15B-300 turbojet engine.

F-15 Eagle
Blending an excellent mix of maneuverability and speed, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is one of the best fighter jets in the U.S. Air Force arsenal.
The base model can do about 1,650 mph, but some variations of the jet are capable of reaching speeds up to 1,875 mph.
