The 5 Cars With Highest Mileage That Are Still On The Road
By RICHARD SACHEK
1991 Silverado C/K
The 1991 Chevy Silverado C/K proves American cars and trucks can deliver an impressive lifespan, with one accumulating 1.3 million miles as of 2012.
Owner Frank Oresnik bought the Silverado secondhand with approximately 41,000 miles already logged and has been using it for work as a delivery driver.
1964 Porsche 356C
Guy Newmark received a lightly used 1964 Porsche as a high school graduation gift from his father. Since then, he’s put over one million miles on the car.
Newmark services his vehicle every 3,000 miles, though some major repairs are unavoidable, like the engine needing to be rebuilt three times.
1963 Volkswagen Beetle
While some cars only need routine maintenance to keep them going, Albert Klein has spent more than $38,000 on upkeep for his 1963 Beetle since buying the car new for $1,900.
In addition to traveling 1,610,000 miles until 1993, the car had used 36,500 gallons of gasoline by the time it hit a million miles. Klein ultimately donated his car to a museum.
1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D
The Mercedes W115 series of vehicles has a reputation for reliability. Gregorios Sachinidis can attest to its longevity as his car accumulated 2,850,000 miles.
The car served as Sachinidis’ personal transportation and as a taxicab. Today, the vehicle is on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
1966 Volvo P1800S
Although Volvo has been seen as a boring purveyor of boxy but safe vehicles, Irving Gordon loved his P1800 and has driven it more than 3.2 million miles.
Upon Gordon’s passing in 2018, the car was purchased from his estate by Volvo itself as a case study into its durability and for display at the company’s museum in New Jersey.
