Skil Power Tools: Who Actually Makes Them And Are They Any Good?
By GARRETT ETTINGER
Founded back in the 1920s by Edmond Michel in Louisiana when he designed a new mechanized sugar cane machete, Skil has since become an icon in the power tools industry.
While Skil was originally an American company, in 2017, it became a subsidiary of Chervon (HK) Ltd., a Chinese tool manufacturer known for the Ego, Devon, and Flex brands.
Skil tools are now at local hardware stores and chains like Ace Hardware. However, like most power tools, their quality largely comes down to the type of tool you're getting.
Skil tools are generally comparable to other mid-range home improvement tool brands like Ryobi, but its power saws are renowned and fairly affordable compared to competing brands.
Their best-selling saw at Ace is the $199.99 Skil Diablo 15 amp 7-1/4 inch Worm Drive circular saw, which has a 4.7 out of five rating.
Their worst-reviewed products at Ace are its line of electric sanders, such as the Skil 6 amp Corded Belt Sander and the Skil Corded 2 amp 1/4 Sheet Sander.
