Ranking The Biggest Camera Brands From Worst To Best
By S.G. HOWE
10. Pentax
While there's plenty to like about this longstanding brand, Pentax cameras have been behind the curve as the industry moved away from legacy film.
Pentax is still a respected brand that produces great SLR cameras, but its distinct lack of quality telescopic lenses and overall stunted range hold the company back.
9. Lumix
Panasonic's Lumix cameras have a small but devoted following. They are decent-performing hobbyist cameras with excellent color output.
However, the focusing capabilities of Lumix cameras and lenses are somewhat slow and soft. Panasonic also suffers issues regarding reliability and equipment longevity.
8. Sigma
Although Sigma is better known as a third-party lens label, the company offers a few cameras of its own, such as the relatively popular Sigma fp L.
The brand has seemingly left behind its focus on ultra-heavy, high-performing equipment and has shifted into developing lightweight but still capable cameras and lenses.
7. Nikon
Nikon is a well-established camera brand and a major competitor in the market. Unfortunately, it performs worse than other major brands.
Nikon performs poorly in low-light shooting environments, autofocus consistency and tracking reliability, and mirrorless camera range and support compared to its competitors.
6. OM System
Formerly Olympus, OM System is only slightly better than Nikon, rated as good or excellent in reliability by 95% of its users over Nikon's 92%.
The OM System OM-1 mirrorless camera has a larger viewfinder than the Nikon Z6 Mark II and has no video recording limit, making it an appealing choice for videography.
