Phone Users Should Consider Uninstalling These Apps (And Here's Why)
By BON ADAMSON
Apollo
While it was one of the best third-party Reddit apps, Apollo has closed permanently. This move was due to changes Reddit made to its API and the cost of using it.
Third-party apps like Apollo or Android's RedditIsFun would have faced enormous charges to keep operating. Since they have shut down, there's no sense in keeping them installed.
Default Apps
The iPhone has numerous pre-installed apps, but not all are useful for everyone. These apps include Music, Podcasts, Contacts, and Notes.
Even if you aren't bothered by these apps cluttering your library, you should remove any you're not using, as they can slow your phone down and drain its battery.
QR Code Scanner
Since QR codes have become a part of everyday life — especially after the COVID-19 pandemic — many modern phones have a built-in ability to scan them.
iPhone owners can simply use their default iOS camera app to scan QR codes, removing the need for a separate app capable of the same function.
Weather Apps
Although many downloaded third-party weather apps to replace Apple's default option on the iPhone, the company purchased the popular Dark Sky app in 2020.
Apple's purchase of the app led to a massive Weather app upgrade in iOS 15. Dark Sky may be gone, but Apple's default Weather app is more usable than ever.
Flashlight
Much like QR code scanners, a flashlight is now built into iPhones, eliminating the need for a separate app. However, there is another reason to remove a third-party app.
Flashlight apps require users to allow access to certain parts of their phones. These apps could harvest user data and threaten their privacy.
