Neil DeGrasse Tyson Has A Scary Theory On How The World Will End
By ELI SHAYOTOVICH
As the most recognizable astrophysicist on planet Earth, Neil deGrasse Tyson always seems to have a theory about something. In March 2021, Tyson appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to promote his latest book, "Cosmic Queries,” which focuses on the really big questions about the universe and humans' place within it.
Colbert asked the famed astrophysicist to explain how the Earth will end, and Tyson responded that the sun will eventually expand, and the planet will get so hot that the oceans boil off and evaporate into space. Earth will become a burning husk that gets pulled to the sun's surface and vaporizes.
However, for Tyson the bigger question is how will the universe end. In the interview, Tyson explained “Big Rip” theory, which says that the cosmic expansion rate due to dark energy will continue until it “rips” or separates every molecule and atom apart, including the very fabric of space and time. It’s hard to decide which of Tyson’s theories is scarier!
