Meet The World’s Largest Tractor: The Legendary Big Bud
By DANNY BOJIC
Built in 1977 in Havre, Montana, Big Bud is a 747 farm tractor standing 14 feet tall and 27 feet long. It weighs over 100,000 pounds and has a 1,100 horsepower engine.
Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Big Bud was a top-of-the-line deep ripper, breaking up soil at depths ordinary plows couldn’t reach. After years of work, Big Bud was retired in 2009.
However, that’s not the end for Big Bud. While Big Bud’s deep-ripping days may be over, the iconic line of tractors came back in 2023, though at a smaller size.
According to Western Ag Network, the new Big Buds weigh 70,000 pounds and have 640-750 horsepower. They are designed to be a go-to for any farmer needing an oversized vehicle.
