Magic Erasers Are A Perfect Auto Glass Cleaner – With One Exception
By DANIEL TROCK
Magic Erasers, which are essentially melamine sponges, are made of melamine, an organic compound that is rich in nitrogen and surprisingly adept at cleaning gunk off car windows.
Melamine is a foam, but when compressed into a sponge, it can be wetted and squeezed to release itself in controlled bursts. Unexpectedly, the disposable sponges are very abrasive.
When given a good squash, wetted melamine sponges can remove anything off either side of your car's windows — be it stubborn, staining pigments like ink, paint, or dog slobber.
If scrubbing with the sponge alone isn’t helping, use some isopropyl alcohol or toothpaste. That said, if the windows have after-market tint films, the sponge will scrub those off.
Note that melamine sponges are too abrasive to use on the car's main body or internal upholstery. While they may be okay for the faces of your wheels, they can damage the tires.
