How To Use ChatGPT-4 Without Paying For A Plus Subscription
By DAVE MCQUILLING
OpenAI announced the release of GPT-4, a far more powerful version of the GPT-3.5 model that ChatGPT is currently running. However, this will only be available to paid subscribers.
Fortunately, OpenAI’s chatbot isn’t the only program to use GPT-4. There are other ways to access it, some of which are free and don’t restrict the amount you can use the model.
ChatGPT is the core of Microsoft’s recent Bing revamp. Users can now ask a conversational version of the tech giant’s search engine, Bing Chat, to perform tasks for free.
The chatbot has some advantages over ChatGPT, such as its ability to search the web, but it’s less teachable than the vanilla GPT-4 and less suited to providing lengthy answers.
The AI pretends to be a pre-made persona, a fictional character, a real person, or the user’s created persona. This allows users to chat with figures like Taylor Swift or Batman.
A great way to interact with many AI chatbots, including GPT-4, is by using Quora’s Poe platform. Unfortunately, access to GPT-4 and some of the others is limited.
However, this is more access than ChatGPT currently allows its free users and is close to the level of service OpenAI users are paying $20 per month for.
Although OpenAI gets enough signups to break its own system, most of the company’s income isn’t from paid subscriptions — it’s from leasing the GPT-4 model to others.
