Here's What The Blue Dot On Android Text Messages Actually Means
By MAX MILLER
If you’ve texted on your Android phone, you may have noticed that some contacts have a small blue dot or a chat bubble on the bottom right of their profile picture.
These symbols indicate that you and that contact have enabled RCS, or “rich communication services,” messaging. RCS gives your conversation with that contact more features.
Conversations with these contacts likely have higher-quality images, longer messages, emoji reactions, read receipts, and typing indicators.
RCS messaging also likely means your messages are protected with end-to-end encryption, though you’ll need to confirm that by looking for a padlock icon in the conversation itself.
Depending on your Android device and wireless carrier, these RCS indicator symbols can be different, such as Google Pixel phones using a blue chat bubble.
