A Veteran Pilot Names The Best Commercial Aircraft To Fly
By ELI BECHT
Out of all the companies that manufacture jets, Boeing stands above the rest, according to retired captain turned instructor Richard J. Levy. He especially favors the Boeing 777.
He told SlashGear "the 777 would fly long distances, and have the navigation equipment to fly worldwide" and "the Autoland was used down to 75 meters runway visual range."
The Boeing 777's advanced Autoland system lets the pilot oversee the landing, but an automated system handles the process and only intervenes in the event of a failure.
The Boeing 777 holds up to 397 passengers and is the largest twinjet in the world. Despite that and other advancements, there were just over 1,600 in service as of December 2018.
While outdated and outclassed nowadays, Levy also looks back on the Boeing 727 with fondness, in addition to the 737 and 747, respectively, before getting to the 757 and 767.
