5 Unexpected Ways To Use Your Old Lawn Mower Engine
By JASON PARKER
Power Generator
One great use for a lawn mower engine is to make a power generator. These generators are handy in a power outage or when you need an alternate power source.
A lawn mower power generator produces about 12 volts of electricity, but since the gas tank is small, it will likely work for about an hour before needing a refill.
Air Compressor
Instead of going to a gas station to fill up your car or bike tires, you can turn your old lawn mower into an air compressor.
It’s important to note that dealing with a gas engine and high pressure can be dangerous, so you must be careful when converting your old engine into an air compressor.
Go-Kart
Although it isn’t a simple task, you can use your old lawn mower engine to power a go-kart. It requires extra parts and tools not found in a standard toolbox.
The go-kart won’t be powerful enough for a grown adult. However, it could be a great project for you and your child, given you have the resources to build it.
Log Splitter
Chopping wood can be rough on the body. Luckily, you can make your life easier by using your old lawn mower engine to build a motorized log splitter.
Making the log splitter is a big project requiring several additional parts, but once you do, you can build up your firewood stockpile without straining your back.
Boat Motor
Lawn mower engines can be used for just about anything, such as making a boat motor. While it won’t go very fast, the motor will get you across most small bodies of water.
For this project, you’ll ideally have a broken outboard boat motor so you have all the appropriate hardware and a propeller already attached.
