5 Tool Brands That Are Still Made In The USA
By JACK PICONE
Snap-on
Snap-on began in the 1920s, making a name for itself by manufacturing the first ratcheting attachment made for use with an original set of interchangeable socket wrenches.
While the toolmaker has become an international company and operates manufacturing facilities in places like China and France, most of its facilities are still in the U.S.
Craftsman
Starting in the 1920s, Craftsman quickly became popular for customers looking to buy lawnmowers and electric drills. Today, the brand is still going strong.
Craftsman has several plants across the continental U.S., such as in Fort Mill, South Carolina and New Britain, Connecticut.
Milwaukee
Like Snap-on and Craftsman, Milwaukee Tools was founded in the 1920s and has grown significantly into a large international corporation.
Milwaukee Tools has several overseas manufacturing facilities in places like China and Vietnam. However, it still has factories on American soil that make its products.
Makita
Although founded in Japan, Makita has manufactured products in the U.S. since 1985. The Makita Corporation of America is located in Buford, Georgia.
While Makita manufactures its electric drills and battery tools in China, it operates several warehouse and distribution facilities in the U.S., such as in Reno, Nevada.
Leatherman
Leatherman may be younger than many major hardware brands, but it has become one of the most trusted names in multitools since its founding in the 1980s.
Its factory in Portland, Oregon, has been the heart of Leatherman and its products for four decades, manufacturing the brand's many different kinds of pocket knives and multitools.
