Stardew Valley multiplayer update teased

Stardew Valley is one of those indie games that just keeps on giving. The 2016 game has already received a massive amount of content through various post-launch releases, but as they say, the best is yet to come. Multiplayer is on the way for all platforms, and it would appear we're closing in on that update's release.

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the sole developer behind Stardew Valley, has revealed that his attention is now fully on finishing the multiplayer component of Stardew Valley's incoming update. He teased the new mode with a single image on Twitter, noting that he's been testing 4-player LAN with some friends in his spare time.

"4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house... it's really fun," Barone writes. "It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid. Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can't wait to share this."

As for when Barone will actually share the multiplayer update, that's still up in the air at the moment. We don't have a release date for the multiplayer update yet, but we do know that'll it'll arrive on PC before anything else, then on Switch as timed console exclusive before eventually coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well.

Shortly before Christmas, Barone revealed additional content that will be coming along with this multiplayer update, including a new in-game event for winter, new outdoor decorations, new events for NPCs, and a way to respec your profession. It sounds like a pretty huge update all things considered, but you can bet that players are most excited for the addition of multiplayer. We'll keep an ear to the ground for more on that release date, so stay tuned!
