Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks $100 million in advance sales

Last month we brought you the news that The Force Awakens had already smashed one sales record. The film had already racked up more than $50 million in advance ticket sales in the US, which was more than double what the previous record holder had managed. And now that number has soared even higher.

Back in 2012, The Dark Knight Rises managed to pull in $25 million in advance sales. While that was record-breaking then, it almost pales in comparison to the news that The Force Awakens has already pulled in over $100 million in advance sales.

What's amazing is that the biggest opening weekend for any movie in December was The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which sold around $85 million. Star Wars has managed to beat that figure before the doors even open.

When you consider just how many tickets have been sold already, it makes you wonder what the ceiling is on opening weekend ticket sales. It's being reported that many theaters that are trying to open up additional screening times just to meet demand. One thing is for certain, this will be one of the most memorable movie launches in history.
