Star Wars stand-alone movie director steps forth

The director of the next Fantastic Four film Josh Trank has been tapped by Lucasfilm to direct the first Star Wars stand-alone movie. This will be one of the several stand-alone films that will be released by Lucasfilm and Disney in the coming years, each of them said to be centered on a single character: Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, or any number of clone troopers, for example.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke about Trank this week as an "incredible talent," going on to remind us that he'll be perfect for "Star Wars and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and story lines of Episodes I through IX." That's the original trilogy, the prequels, and episodes 7, 8, and 9, mind you.

Trank has also directed Chronicle and will take the helm of the first Star Wars stand-alone film soon.

At this time it would appear that at least two stand-alone Star Wars films must be in the works. Think about the following characters and let us know which you'd like to see get their own film first!
