Return of the Jedi question answered in new Star Wars land comic

This week the first issue of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is in comic book stores. Inside you'll find a definitive answer to one of the most puzzling questions in the history of the Star Wars universe. What's the true look of the desert-bound hole-gobbling Sarlacc? The answer comes thanks to a new hero in the Star Wars universe, one suspiciously similar to a character from the Marvel Comics universe (comics and cinematic universes, incidentally), by the name of The Collector!

In the Guardians of the Galaxy part 1 and the first half of the Avengers: Thanos film duo – Avengers: Infinity War, we see a character played by Benicio Del Toro, called The Collector. His place in the universe is of caretaker of the strange, the unique, or the otherwise incredibly rare. In the Star Wars universe, that role will be filled by one Dok-Ondar.

I don't need to say WARNING: Spoiler alert here, do I? Because spoiler alert, spoiler alert indeed!

Dok-Ondar

Dok-Ondar is an Iithorian (hammerhead) who was originally conceived as a device with which a "high-concept gift shop" could be brought to life inside the world's first Star Wars theme park. In the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park, this gift shop / museum of real-life actual Star Wars movie relics will be called "Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities."

Disney revealed that they'd have Dok-Ondar in the park as an animatronic character. So he'll actually be there, like a real-deal member of the Star Wars universe, like no big deal! Below you'll see a few items that are apparently set to be available for purchase at the park in this shop – we'll see!

FUN FACT: In the film Solo: A Star Wars Story, the character Qi-ra mentions Dok-Ondar in passing. Aboard the Crimson Dawn yacht and just after she's reunited with Solo for the first time, Qi'ra speaks with a drink server Ottilie. "Thank you, Ottilie," said Qi'ra, "Have you been attentive to Dok-Ondar?"

Dok-Ondar will appear in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge 1, 2, 3, and Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, as well. He's in the canon, just begging to be blasted into future big-screen appearances and references galore!

What about Return of the Jedi?

Yes, R2, I was just getting to that. In the comic Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge number one, as reviewed over at SWNewsNet, we see the general plot of the first in a series of several stories – this one starring Han Solo and Chewbacca (and a few other oddballs).

They head to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. That's the same place we'll see at the first Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Star Wars Land!) at Disney. This moment in Star Wars history takes place somewhere between Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi.

Much like we see in The Force Awakens, Solo and Chewie are in the business of smuggling dangerous and profitable cargo, in this case a pair of sarlacc!

What we get to see here – and what I've been waiting to see since I first saw Return of the Jedi on cable television – is the full body of the sarlacc. Granted, we only really see the infant version of the creature – but still!

We've seen a couple other illustrations of this creature in the time between ROTJ and now, but things change. George Lucas changed a whole lot when he decided to add that "beak" in Special Edition, for example. Now, from here on out, maybe we can keep the look of this one most terrifying creature the same – because jeepers, it's a weird one.
