Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to offer a rare single-player experience

Some conventions have become so normal and so ingrained these days that you almost have to explicitly state something that was, a few years ago, the norm. That's half of gamers' reaction when the next Star Wars Jedi title and trailer were finally revealed, following the first trailer for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. To assure fans of the franchise that this won't be a money grab, the game is now being heavily advertised as a strictly single-player activity with no microtransactions involved.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order winds back the clock to when the Jedi, once the Republic's most powerful defenders, became an endangered species. Players take on the role of a completely new character, Cal Kestis, a Padawan that has to survive the dreaded Order 66 while trying to continue his training to become a full-fledged Jedi Knight.

Fallen Order will take players to new locations made just for the game, like the planet Bracca, but also promises familiar places and faces. There are also new characters, like the primary antagonist, the Inquisition's Second Sister. Of course, there's also a new type of droid by the name of BD-1 that could become yet another toy product later on.

The game naturally promises to give players an authentic Jedi experience, as much as you can be a Jedi using controllers and a keyboard and mouse. In addition to combat using lightsabers and the force, the game will employ traversal and platforming mechanics to solve puzzles and get an edge over enemies.

Perhaps the most discussed mechanic of the game is something EA Star Wars community manager Ben Walke revealed on Twitter: no multiplayer, no microtransactions. While definitely good news, it's a bit sad that you have to put those in bullet points these days as selling features. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will launch on November 15 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Origin.
